Dear UMA FANG-MILY,
... John P. Stevenson <unimonster(*at*)sbcglobal.net> is a Beloved Member of THE UMA, when I read this, on [CreatureFeatures] I immediately went to sign the petition. Let's help, to lead this "CHAAAARRRGGGEEE!"

... Today is the 119th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Janus Piccoulas, better known to fans of classic horror as Jack Pierce. In celebration of his birthday, I want to invite you to go to:

http://www.petition online.com/jppierce/petition.html

and add your name to the petition asking Universal to finally fund a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Jack.
... Scott Essman, a member of many of these groups, is the foremost expert on Jack Pierce, and has been working tirelessly for several years to bring this recognition to this pioneer of  Horror. He was very close in 2001 when, at the last moment, Universal reallocated the money they had set aside for the purpose. Let's band together, keep the pressure on them, and actually get them to cross the finish line this time. Thank you.

I'd be the first one to support a star for Pierce, however...

We know from the attempt to get Lon Chaney Jr. a star, that you can have all the petitions in the world and it won't matter one bit. You need the money, and it is very expensive. Most stars get their star paid for by the movie studio whose movie they're promoting that week, or by the star's management company.

If we couldn't get Chaney Jr. a star, I don't hold much hope for Pierce. Even though he richly deserves it.

With Universal remaking The Wolf Man right now, it seems like a great time to start contacting them to help in honoring both Lon, Jr. and Jack Pierce.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

*BUMP*

Exciting update from Scott Essman!
(This is his email, quoted below... )

Hollywood Chamber of Commerce called me today - the nomination for 2010 for Jack Pierce is secured... don't forget to sign the petition and spread the word if you haven't done so.  Also, there is this link to the online petition and this letter going out below:

http://www.petitiononline.com/jppierce/petition.html

To Whom It May Concern:

Jack Pierce has been nominated for a Star on Hollywood Boulevard's WALK OF FAME.  I had previously nominated him in 2001 and it was going through until another project took precedence and our commitment for funding was redirected.  I did so again last year and just reinstated the nomination for this year - which would award him the star in 2010.

All that remains is additional letters/commitment of support from those who might wield influence.  This means YOU.  If you could see fit to write a letter of support and include a brief summary of your credentials, this would certainly help our cause.

As anyone who studies film knows, Pierce was responsible for the greatest screen characters of the 1930s and 1940s in the horror genre.  We all owe him our debt of gratitude, and many of us wouldn't be here whatsoever without his genius!

VERY IMPORTANT:  If you plan to contribute a supporting letter, I must have it by May 27 as the materials must be collected and e-mailed by that week's end.  Please scan your letter and e-mail it to me by that time.  Thanks very much - Pierce is smiling down on us!

Sincerely, Scott Essman

PLEASE-- spread the word on that on-line petition! It's fast, easy and only takes a few moments.

Share the link on your blogs, Facebook pages, and in other horror groups you may visit.

It would be great to see the number of signatures over 3,000 by the 27th!
