Just transfer them both to a 2-disc case and keep them both.  Doesn't take up any extra space and provides you with a backup if your BLU gets damaged.  (Or you can use the DVD to lend out when you don't want to lend the BLU-Ray.)

It's also a way to keep any DVD special features that were not ported over to the Blu-Ray edition.

I do that with favorite movies - and I use the half-thickness slim cases.  It still works.
Yes, it's good to keep the disc for backup, but I'm also interested in collecting the packaging, including cases, boxes, slipcovers, stickers on cello, and just about anything short of the cello and that annoying tape they used to seal it with. We collect differently.

I've been known to put a 6-disc collection of The Movie and all 5 of its sequels into a single 6-disc case - Just to save room.  (Eliminates 5 whole cases.)

And I still run out of room!

For me, it's a matter of space. All of my storage shelves are full and there is really no space for another one.

I have done that. Depends on how bad I want the things not being duplicated.

A prime example is the DVD / BLU-Ray editions of John Carpenter's Halloween.

The DVD had a nice commentary by Carpenter and producer Debra Hill.  By the time the BLU-Ray came out, they had divorced, and she had died.  Guess they could not get rights to the existing commentary after that.  It was replaced on the BLU-Ray with an inferior John Carpenter only commentary.

I had to keep the DVD for the better commentary.

My 25th Anni. DVD says commentary with Carpenter, Curtis and Hill. Is that the same one?

I double-checked.  That's the one.  Together they had a lot more to say.

(On the BLU-Ray, Carpenter seemed to have a lot less to offer by himself.  Curtis rattles on about her clothes and hair - like anyone cares.)

Good! I'll have to hold onto that one.

I really like Psycho II.  I think it was a fitting follow-up to the original.

Psycho III is a lot better than its reputation.

Lunkenstein

I love the Psycho films. Have the original on blu-ray and a 3 movie, dvd set of II, III and IV.
II is my favorite sequel, but all are worthwhile. I like how things end up in IV.
