Kino has a sale on right now for their anniversary, so I took the opportunity to get a few more Universal movies and some other goodies.

The Spider-Woman Strikes Back
The House of the Seven Gables
Alice in Wonderland (1933)
The Complete Metropolis
The Adventures of Captain Marvel
(serial)

I think that might finish up the Universal titles they (Kino) have available for me.  There's still horror I wouldn't mind having, but the priority purchases are done.

I'm hoping for a Danza Macabra Vol. 4 at some point with more Spanish Gothic Horror. I'd love to see Vampire's Night Orgy, Curse of the Devil, The Dracula Saga, and Curse of the Vampire get the deluxe treatment.

Four more candidates for another Spanish Danza Macabra Volume are: The Swamp of the Ravens (1974), Devil's Kiss (1976), Demon Witch Child (1975), and The Feast of Satan (1971).

Arrow has a sale, so I nabbed a few things.

Ringu Collection
Spider Baby

I have their single release of Ringu from a previous sale, but I really enjoyed it, so $40 for 3 of the sequels is fine by me.  I'm sure I can find a good home for my duplicate.

Also put in a pre-order with Imprint:

Tales from the Cryptkeeper: The Complete Series
The Mummy: The Complete Animated Series
Prom Night 1-4 Collection
Hammer Horror: Four Gothic Horror Films

The Hammer set is one I hadn't seen on the site previously, and contains Twins of Evil, Countess Dracula, Vampire Circus, and Hands of the Ripper.  Annoyingly, I paid full price for Twins of Evil a while back to finish my Karnstein Trilogy, but this set still ended up costing less than the other three films that I need would have come out to on their own, so I went for it.

Got these from Amazon today. The first disc of the Sci-Fi Collection was loose but after testing it seems okay. I believe that's the first time I've ever had a BD slip loose in transit, it used to happen with DVDs commonly and sometimes resulted in disc scratches. The BDs seem to be protected better and it really helps that the BD cases are softer plastic. The smaller size of BD cases and softer plastic really helps to prevent damage to the case. Those DVD cases were constantly getting cracked in shipping, especially if just shipped in an envelope. I've never had a BD case get damaged in shipping. I still don't know why manufacturers don't put some kind of packing inside the case as a matter of course. It's insurance against disc slippage and it's dirt cheap.

One note about these Kino Lorber slipcases- they're too tight. It's hard to get them back on without tearing the clear plastic sleeve on the case. KL needs to fix that. I like slipcases if they fit right and don't add a lot of cost to the product. I don't mind paying a couple of extra bucks for a slipcase, but they aren't worth much more than that to me. I remember some eBay seller was selling BD overstock of the Fury of the Wolfman BD by Scorpion and he was charging $10 extra for the slipcase, which I passed on. It's important to me to get the disc(s) and case undamaged, the slipcase not so much.

Looking forward to getting into these old gems with the commentaries.

There is a kind of hub where the discs never come loose and you just push the hub and they pop right off. Those should be required on every DVD case!

Yes, that would be preferable. It's hard to get everyone on the same page though. It should at least be an industry standard that a bit of packing be placed inside the disc case to prevent the discs from coming off and bouncing around.

Just picked up the Criterion Collection of Tod Browing's Sideshow Shockers. The collection includes Freaks (1932), The Unknown (1927), and The Mystic (1925).

They should have used "The Cat and the Canary" instead of "Horror Hotel". Then you'd have a theme goin'. 1920s horror/comedy plays.  :)

The appeal was that I didn't have any of these.  I've got both Cat & The Canary versions now.
