Quote from: Lazarus on June 05, 2024, 02:17:34 AMSo, I've got two of the Quatermass movies coming.  I had assumed Quatermass and the Pit was the first one for some reason, and I was wrong about that.  Thankfully, Kino Lorber is there to make sure I don't have an incomplete trilogy.

Not sure how KL ended up with the first movie and Shout! got the other two. If you haven't seen "Q and the Pit", it should be in everyone's top 10 '60s sci-fi movies. Probably in my top 5.

Haven't seen any.  'and the Pit' was the one I heard mentioned the most in the past, so I figured that was the first one.

The first 2 were made in the mid '50s with Brian Donlevy as "Q". "Pit" was made (in color) a decade later with Andrew Keir (Dracula POD) as "Q". Also starring Barbara Steele and James Donald.

Barnes & Noble has a sale on for 50% off on AMC AND Kino DVDs and Blu Rays.  I hadn't actually finished that Kino order I posted last time (waiting for my paycheck to direct deposit).  So there's been a change.  They didn't have the 50s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, so I switched to the remake.  And I added a lot of things.  A LOT OF THINGS.

Curse of the Undead
Creepshow Seasons 2-4
Supernatural (1933)
House / House 2 Double Feature DVD
The Quatermass Xperiment
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Republic Pictures Sci-Fi Chillers Collection
Death Machine
Faust
The Golem
Nosferatu
Edgar G. Ulmer Sci-Fi Collection
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Mad Max

Getting most of the Creepshow series for cheap was too good to pass up.  And I can cross off two more Universal titles from my list!

Death Machine is a new release of a 90s cyberpunk movie that I'd never heard of.  The trailer looked stupid and awesome.
Mostly got it because Brad Dourif is in it as a villain though.

This is probably it for me for the rest of the year.  I might get the rest of the Dracs and Franks for myself in a few months.

Got the Chaney bio pic on BD. Only one more Universal DVD to upgrade ("The Man Who Laughs"). The few remaining titles haven't been released on Blu-ray.

Also picked up "The Fablemans".

Does anyone know if the Warner Archive release of House of Wax comes with a non 3d version?  I don't have a 3D TV and I'm not getting one.

"The 60th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release arrives on October 1st, and features 3D and 2D presentations minted from a 4K scan and restoration, a new featurette and the original 1933 film, Mystery of the Wax Museum."

Rich

I have the Kino edition of Nosferatu on Blu-ray arriving tomorrow from Amazon. I've owned the Kino DVD edition for years, but finally felt that the time was right to upgrade. I've watched some reviews for the disc, and everyone is saying that that particular version is the absolute best version of the film that currently exists. So, I can't wait to receive it. I'll do a silent monster movie double feature tomorrow: The Phantom of the Opera and Nosferatu.
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

Thank you.  That's helpful.  Probably be getting that one some time in the near future.

Stock has been kind of dwindling in places for some Universal stuff I needed, so I had a bit of a panic buy yesterday.

The Deadly Mantis
Curucu, Beast of the Amazon
The House on Haunted Hill
(Film Detective DVD)
The Land Unknown
The Leech Woman
Cult of the Cobra
(Universal Vault DVD)
The Phantom Creeps DVD set
Tarantula
Day of the Dead
Monster on the Campus

Most of those were from Amazon, the last three were from Shout Factory because Tarantula was much cheaper there.  I'm getting down to just a handful of Universal titles that I still need, at least for what there is that I can get without a region free player.
