Got this little love note from our gas company:

"Dear Customer,

There's no easy way to put this: January bills are likely to be higher than usual. An unprecedented cold snap across the nation in part has caused natural gas market prices in the West to more than double between December and January – much higher than expected. As a result, SoCalGas residential customers can expect the typical January bill likely to be more than double the typical bill last January, assuming the same amount of natural gas is used. ..."

MORE THAN DOUBLE?

Not here to be political.  I believe some of the increase will be due to the higher tax on corporations in the 2023 Budget.

So, the record cold temperatures don't figure in?

My bill would be "more than double" if I used the same amount of gas as last year - but, since it has been colder, I am using much more than last year.

Can't wait to see my next couple bills.

I also got an email from the Electric Company, telling me that bill would being going up a little - but not nearly as much as gas.

I have electric heat, so the bill is for heat and lights.

The temperatures do to.  Of course if you use more gas than last year, it will be more.  Plus tax increases and inflation.  Since it costs the gas company more, they will just pass it on to the consumer.

Damn!!  My electric bill went up too,  but I still wish I had gas heat, as opposed to my rotten OIL heat!!  I keep my thermostat set at 62. Plus, my oil heater in this house is from the 50's!!  It's old fashioned hot water radiators, at least they stay warm for quite a while.
