WCW Best of Pay Per View dvd

You can tell from my last few posts in this thread I'm going through old school wrestling phase. About every other year, I get out dvds of old school WCW and WWE matches (1983-2000 roughly) and binge.

The West Wing, Season I, 1999 - Some of the best that TV has had to offer over the years.  Tightly scripted office-based political drama that is skillfully staged to move around enough that it seems to be much more action-oriented than what is really happening.  Great scripts performed by extremely able actors and supported by great music.

Sure, it helps to share the political view of the authors, but it is just a terrific presentation, all around.  The opposing party is held up as wrong-headed, but never as evil, ungodly or any of the other crap we hear today.  The main characters aren't presented as perfect - just trying really hard.

I will watch the rest of the series' run before I am done.  I watched the whole series during the election in 2016, and I will again this year.

I use it as a palate cleanser after consuming political reality night after night.  I wish our own politics could be so cordial and consistently high-minded.

The West Wing, Seasons II  &  III, 2000  &  2001 - Just polished off these two seasons yesterday morning and was feeling pretty good about how decent American TV (and American politics) can be - even during a plot about a President who hides a serious illness and conducts an illegal covert assassination of a foreign official.

Then, I watched the "debate".

The Storm of the Century

My favorite of King's TV offerings.  SO atmospheric (so cold) and a lovely regional film with some pretty good accents.

Never fails to please.  Even though I've seen it several times, once it is on I can't not watch it to the end.

I have tried to watch Ray Bradbury theater episodes several times but I always fall asleep despite being on of my favorite authors.

The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh (Disney, 1964)

This aired on The Wonderful World Of Color in 3 episodes. Really good stuff, even better than Hammer's Night Creatures starring Cushing (sacrilege, I know). Stars Patrick McGoohan of The Prisoner fame.

I was lucky enough to get the DVD set when it first came out.  Man, it sure went out of print fast.

Yeah, you scored on that!

I missed out on it and had to settle for a boot, but I'm just glad to be able to watch it. I only have the TV version but it's the one I wanted the most, just to see it as it aired on Wonderful World Of Color back in 1964. I have yet to see the Dr. Syn theatrical version to see what was edited out of the TV version. I had a quick look on eBay and the 2008 DVD release seems to command more than $100 in "pre-owned" condition, and $200-$300 in "Brand New" sealed condition. Even the 2019 Blu-ray sealed is being offered for $50 or more. Disney is tight fisted with their properties so to see it ya gotta pay someway- rent or buy. The House Of Mouse don't give anything away.

Got a pretty good deal on the complete "Malcomb In the Middle" series, 22 discs.  It is in PAL format, since the U.S. issue stopped after releasing Season 1.  (Love my all format player.)

After I squeezed the whole set into 4 standard DVD cases, I sat down to watch the Pilot.  Didn't stop until I had seen it and 5 episodes.  The show still has the ability to make me laugh out loud.

Smart writing and a treasure trove of ideas for older siblings who want to torment their younger victims.
