Here's another Mad Special that I clearly remember buying in the late spring of 1966 at my corner variety store:

The record was made of cardboard but could nonetheless be played on a standard phonograph. It consisted of an instrumental track periodically interrupted by Alfred E. Neuman's belches.

:o

Incidentally, can anyone identify all the singers on the cover? I can only ID about half of them.

???

Not all, but my best guesses are:

Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Harry Belafonte on the lower left.  That leaves the four on top.

George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Johnny Mathis, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Presley on the right.  Not sure who is behind the elbow!

One of my favorite covers, of a recent issue. December-2018.

"They come from the bowels of hell; a transformed race of walking dead. Zombies, guided by a master plan for complete domination of the Earth."

I always liked this Planet of the Apes cover.

I have a copy of the afore mentioned cardboard MAD record. They actually put out a few complete MAD albums of which this is one song. Great song by the way, it's called "It's A Gas"...

Every mom's favorite song.

I'll bet some of them heard it over and over until the records mysteriously got misplaced when their kids were at school one day.

I do a great version of that song. My mom just held her nose (as did everyone around me). After a good Mexican meal, I'm a virtuoso.

Doh!

Even though I haven't bought an issue in a decade, I'm still sad to see it go under. Good memories!

I know I played it quite a lot, although I was alone upstairs in my room, so my mother didn't throw it away--that's why I still have it today. She did throw away some of my Aurora models though, once. Ouch!

Here's a paperback cover I always liked...

What's sad is why haven't nine to fourteen year old readers these days stepped up to replace the nine to fourteen year old readers Mad had in previous decades?

???
Collecting! It's what I do!

Maybe for the same reason they are not sending in cereal boxtops to collect valuable prizes.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?
