Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new BD are the correct aspect ratios for a number of the films, whereas they weren't on the older collections. That's why I'm upgrading (plus bonus features)

That and the extras.  I am a big fan of commentaries.  One of the re-issues had THREE commentaries!

Yeah. If a movie was shot in widescreen, I really want to be able to see the whole picture. I've never understood the crowd who didn't care about aspect ratios. If a movie was shot 4:3, that's fine. But why crop a widescreen movie? Doesn't that miss the point?

I used to have The Time Machine on VHS that was open mat.  When Rod and Yvette are sitting around the campfire, one of the Morlocs leans in and grabs her.  You can clearly see it is a guy wearing a Moroc sleeve and wearing glasses.

When I got a properly matted DVD, you could no longer the guy's head - just like it was intended to play in the theater.  A lot of mic booms were eliminated from movies the same way.

The only time I like improper open matted movies is when we get a glimpse of more nudity than was intended - Heh, heh.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons to upgrade.

With new high-definition scans, multiple commentaries and other features, I think Scream is well justified in their prices.  Love the fact that each movie has its own disc.  That will allow me to print art for individual slim-cases and file my films alphabetically.  (The only way Scream could improve, is for them to put each movie in slim-cases at the Factory.)

This Island Earth, 1955 - BLU-Ray - Scream Factory - Scheduled Release Date: - July 9, 2019

Now we know what extras we are getting:

              Bonus Features

     • NEW 4K scan of the inter-positive – Two aspect ratios: 1.85:1 and 1.37:1...
     • NEW The Original Perspecta Stereophonic Sound restored by 3-D Film Archive
     • NEW Audio Commentary with author and Academy Award winning visual effects artist Robert Skotak
     • NEW Audio Interview with film historian David Schecter on the music of THIS ISLAND EARTH
     • NEW Alien Ideas - an interview with filmmaker Luigi Cozzi (Starcrash)
     • NEW Text-based gallery Facts about Perspecta Stereophonic Sound by Bob Furmanek
     • THIS ISLAND EARTH - Two and A Half Years in the Making: The Extended Documentary – a look at the making of THIS ISLAND EARTH
     • WAR OF THE PLANETS: 1958 Castle Films release for the home market including both the 50-foot silent Headline edition and the 200-foot sound Complete edition.
     • Trailers from Hell – This Island Earth with commentary by filmmaker Joe Dante
     • Theatrical Trailer
     • Still Galleries – poster and lobby cards, publicity stills and behind-the-scenes photos

I always thought this film looked soft.  Since we are getting a 4K scan of an inter-neg, the original negative must be lost or irretrievably damaged.  Hope this will be a big improvement over what we've had in the past.

The only thing missing from the extras is the Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie version.  (But Shout already released that on BLU-Ray in 2013.)
