Mike's picture gave me an idea. I took his picture and ex-ed out the covers that I have found the logoless artworks for. Half an ex means artwork was partially found. Figured this could work as a visual guide for what artworks are left, that I'm on the look out for at least.

It astounds me that the artwork for the main monsters is so elusive.

Yeah, really! It's like 7 of the big 8 are missing. And all of the non series '40s "B" movies.

I've actually made a few VHS styled DVD covers for my own use. When I get time I'll share a few. :)

I would like that a lot.

Seems like there used to be couple sites where some of the more creative fans would post fan-produced DVD wrapper art.  I don't know where those are anymore.

The studios put out a lot of movies with really lousy art - even though the poster art seems to be mainly in the public domain, and it would it so logical to use them for the fronts of the DVD cases.

(*at*)aura of foreboding and Mike Scott This astounds me too. Had someone asked me 2-3 years ago what I thought I'd find first, I'd be sure I'd have the 8 big ones before we could even talk about the sequels. The fact that I have the arts to practically every Frankenstein and Mummy sequel as well as every Dracula, Wolf Man, and Creature sequel yet none for the originals says something about how locked up these artworks are. Sometimes I often wonder if its due to licensing among the descendants of Lugosi, Karloff, and Chaney but then again I've actually found a couple with them already so I dont know. It really is a mystery. Anyways here's a couple DVD covers I have saved. I'm continuously doing these so there will be more to come! :D

Those DVD covers are fantastic, Criss!  Wish I had something to put the on!  I only have the big 8 on separate DVDs.

Wonderful!

If only Universal would put out a deluxe set on single discs.

I'd spring for a HI-DEF /BLU-Ray set, just so I could replace the factory covers with these.

I'm saving these pictures.

If Universal ever does a complete re-issue of all of them on Blu-Ray, I am going to finally upgrade from the Legacy issues.

If, when Universal does, they keep the movies to no more than 2 films per disc, I would be willing to buy 2 sets,  (after the prices come down) just so I could display the full set the way I have the VHS set all these years.

My only addition before printing these wrappers would be to add a small number to the bottom of each spine.  I like to keep all these in chronological order by release date.  The developing, ongoing saga of the monsters' evolution makes more sense to me in that order, and I like to do binge watching sometimes.

It also makes them look even more like a set of Classic Monster Encyclopedia perched on the shelf.

Oh, yeah...  and  MORE  MORE  MORE!

Do what you like with them. My only request to everyone is please don't sell them. I do not claim ownership over any of these and made them strictly for my own use. That's all. Thank you. :)

Absolutely.

Universal should be paying you for the work involved in adapting the VHS art to DVD format - and then using them for future releases.

A few more. :) And for those unfamiliar with these covers yes I'm well aware that the image on the back cover of The Invisible Man is from the wrong film. Tell that to Universal.

Mike Scott

More beauties! I like the consistency of the back covers.

I thought you didn't have the art for the DRACULA and INVISIBLE MAN boxes?

The Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolf Man front covers I sourced from Japanese LD covers since they are presently the only decent versions of the covers I could find that I felt could be useful on a DVD cover. I have The Invisible Man artwork however it was too cropped on the top to fit the cover. I had a friend photoshop some extra space at the top however when I viewed it in full view in Photoshop it looked too blurry. So what I did was paste the original image over his image and did some erasing to blend the two together. I actually have the Japan LD for that film as well so it's possible I may redo that cover when I get around to scanning the LD cover. ;)

I think "A&C Meet Frankenstein" deserves the grey Classic Collection heading.  They are the Classic monsters.

"The Invisible Woman" is more comedy than serious and it has the grey heading.

I never cared anything about the other A&C monster movies.
