Unknown Primate

Is that Shirley Jackson of The Haunting Of Hill House and The Lottery fame?

That's gotta be Shirley Jackson... I've only seen one photograph of her but the look is unmistakable. Good call, Primate!

The Drunken Severed Head

Alright, who is THIS fellow and how did he nearly change Universal Monster history?

Guess just by looking at the photo, please!

Unknown Primate

The Shirley Jackson one just stuck out.  My daughter read "Hill House" awhile back and I bet there was a photo of the author somewhere on the back cover or something.  This new guy, however, I just can't place, though somewhere in the back of my clouded, simian mind, I'm sure I should know who he is.  Anyone else know?

No to all guesses. The man was nearly a Famous Monster of Filmland.

It's Raymond Huntley. He played Dracula on stage before Bela Lugosi did.

Yup--George is right! In his 20s, when he was skinny, he was the original Drac in the first mounting of the Deane/Balderston play in London, where it became a huge success. He was considered for the movie.

In the role, he had several white streaks in his hair, and two small tufts of hair sticking up like horns, if I remember the pics I've seen correctly. Sort of a demonic Dagwood!

I can just picture Dracula screaming out "Blooondie".  ::)  I swear by my Creepy magazine collection, I'm ever more grateful for Bela than ever.
