The 1990 Republic Pictures Home Video VHS is the best copy I know of.

IMDb says it was released in 1:1.85. Assuming it's 1:1.33, does the VHS look like it's open mat, or zoomed in?

Regarding "The Monster of Piedras Blancas":

Just popped it into the player.  Looks wide open to me.  The titles are very neatly centered and there is a little extra scenery at top and bottom.

It is not a great picture, very dark, but it is very watchable and has very good sound.  Best I have seen.

Republic put out some great copies of serials like Flash Gordon.  Better than anything I see available on DVD now.  I wish whoever owns the rights to their stuff would get it back in circulation in DVD form.

Fido (If you haven't seen it you should)
Biozombie (Hong Kong's take on Dawn of the Dead)
Land of the Dead (my favorite of the 3 newer Romero zombie flicks)

Fido is a really good and fun film to watch. Very original and well written.

Agreed.  :)  It's the best horror comedy since A&C meet Frankenstein and that's saying a lot.

I really liked "Fido", but I would give that honor to "Shaun of the Dead".

That's a tough one. They're both great! Fido was just so weird which is why I like it so much. I also liked the 50's retro fantasy world Fido took place in. And who could forget the relationship these 2 had!  :o
