he mentioned that recasts were made "As for the glow resin, I used clear Smooth-On clear resin with a blue glow, green glow and yellow glow tints.  I also created some white ones (pictured)."
but he didn't mention what the molds were made from.

Getter_1

I used clear Smooth-On clear resin with a blue glow, green glow and yellow glow tints.  I also created some using white resin.  AND I created some versions with glow pigment and white resin and they worked fine, as well.

Molds were made using Smooth-On brand RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) rubber and spray on (again Smooth-On) mold release.

Let me know if you have any other casting/resin questions.  I'm not an expert but I've been doing that stuff for a long time.

Wow! Is that your display? If so, have you considered trying to find one example of each sharpener in each of three different colours? The orange, green and purple ones are rad wild!

???

Yes, and someday I will pimp that out like it should be.

Oh I've been willing to make them for some time.  But I haven't been able to get my hands on a Frankenstein. :(

I made these molds/glow resin busts years ago. I even made a Universal Monster Army display (that's why this "store display" is blue and not red)....

Ah, those were the good old days. ;)

have you tryed making marx monsters of this stuff? Bet they would look cool.
It's all about the Horror.

Getter_1

No.  But I did have a Marx-related idea.  I won't say what, just yet, but it'll be cool if I can pull it off.

Stay tuned. ;)

"Etta the Ghoul" is a pretty interesting character. I wonder how they decided to make her the 4th character. She's not Universal, and frm what I've read Universal at the time was still doing blanket licenses, so another Universal character wouldn't have raised the cost. Did someone at the company think a skull would be popular, and then decide a female skull would be even more desirable? Was Dracula deemed too "normal looking"t to use? Why not the Creature, a very recognizable character at the time. I love questioning the marketing strategy...

Thanks for posting the pics and starting the thread. It's something I was not aware of until now.

Getter_1

It definitely seems like there was a last-minute licensing deal that fell through (maybe a Dracula??).  Etta the Ghoul seems like "filller" to me.  But I still like her.

Perhaps she was designed with the little monster ladies in mind. A ghoul...er...girl sharpener.

The assortment never made sense to me.

There are three Universal sharpeners:  Frankenstein, Mummy & Wolf Man.  They each come in four colors:  Green, Grey, Orange & Purple.  That makes twelve Universal-themed pencil sharpeners.

The counter display holds twelve sharpeners.  There are enough different Universal sharpeners to fill each display.

So why was "Etta, the Ghoul" needed at all?

Is a puzzlement.

I like it, too - but including it means bumping one of the Universal assortment from a place in the display.

It just seems an odd production choice.
