dlh- You have given us all such a marvelous exhibition, and I cannot thank you enough! That triptych is one of the most fantastic pieces of art I've ever seen!!  There's so many beautiful/magical qualities about it that make me love it sooo much  :) Everything that every UMA member has said about it is exactly what I think, too! The sci-fi feelings, and the colors are amazing!!  :)  WOW!! You have some far-out talent.
ChrisW- My oh my!!  Thanks for sharing your wonderful paintings with us! What a treat! Your works are grand and make me want to see more. The stories they tell are the greatest! You are an incredible artist and I am so happy to have had a chance to see these beauties up close  :)

Thanks, Charp!
Fantastic work, Chris! I envy your gigs as cover artist. I tried at one point years ago and got some very polite rejections! Ironically, I've been in five volumes of Spectrum, Print Design Regional Annual, and a two page spread in Communication Arts, but I've never had a cover gig. I did a famous LP cover that I'm reluctant to reveal 'cause it sux (I did it literally in one sitting due to a ridiculous deadline). Virtually all of my work is the result of compulsion and a kind of visual catharsis. Most of it hasn't been seen by the "public". Here's another colored pencil piece.

Dan and Chris, you guys are blowing my mind!!

Chris, extremely nice work!! Love the details. Something I just don't have the patience for.

Dan, your stuff is so surrealistic. You should have worked for Hypgnosis!! Awesome, awesome stuff from both you guys!

ChrisW

Charp, Illoman Mike, thanks for the nice comments, folks.

Dan,  congratulations on your recognition in Spectrum and CA!
The covers I did were pretty much the result of good timing and consistency.
Please, no secrets amongst us friends, what LP cover are you referring to? I'm trying to figure it out but the only thing that's coming to my mind is Pink Floyd The Wall, which is probably much older than the piece you are referring to.
BTW, the images of your work are perfect. How did you shoot them?

Illoman

Yeah, Dan I'd like to know as well. This last one is just incredible1 The movement of those skulls is great! Colored pencil? Unbelievable!! Incredible ability!!

dlhenderson

Here's a close-up of that last one...
On the photos: I used to use tungsten film and 3200k bulbs. It was always such a chore. Now, of course, I use digital. Instead of setting up lights, I usually just take the work outside and shoot in daylight. If the color balance needs any adjustment I use Photoshop.

dlhenderson

I got into doing this motion blur effect for awhile.

When working on this one, I considered the marks in the wall to be the three notches of Arne Saknussemm.  :D

Were you following a path in the piece?

dlhenderson

Not really following a path, per se. Just liked the movie.
This one was kind of a commission; a marble-sculptor friend created a table for me and I worked the legs of the table into the drawing...

ChrisW

There's quite a difference in the texture between this piece and the one immediately preceeding it. Is that a matter of scale?

dlhenderson

That last one is about a third the size of the previous piece.
Here's one that's a bit larger...

All I'm seeing is a red X for this one, Dan.

Illoman

It's showing up here. I like the skeletal quality and the sense of depth in this one very much.
