Yes, it's true, this newly acquired collection that I am showing off located at the fine Chicago Hugohouse Museum (my lair)
has but one flaw.   You can see from the Flatwoods Monster expression of horror that something is truly amiss.
It is the Creature Elwar button.   Has it been shoplifted?  Good heavens, no!    Has Blacky gone for a swim?  I think  not.
Will the barren spot on this fine display easel ever be fufilled?   (actually, elmer's glue and cheap cardboard box tops but who am I to give away  my secrets?).
please refer to the want ads to help in my dilemma of crisis.
in the meantime, feast your eyes on this proud yet not quite all there display.
(if the screaming flatwoods monster child hurts your ears, just remember, you aren't actually there)

Were those not the buttons sold through Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine?

Any luck obtaining a Creature button?

Dr.Terror

LOL, I thought this was about the Creech I-Scream spoon or Mon-Stir.
Morning, noon, or night, Anytime . . . . the count may strike. If you're caught you have to linger, Cause Dracula may bite your finger!

Who did the artwork on these buttons? The Frankenstein looks like that of Basil Gogos.

I have the full set, but no extras, sorry. I'll keep an eye out, and alert you if I come across one. Good luck!

This website has a picture of six Universal monster buttons that look very different from those above:

Those look to just be bootlegs of the Aurora and SPP art (with the Creature being the photoshop job of the SPP art used on the wallets sold in the  Ferry resurrected run of Famous Monsters). It's possible these were sold as a set through the magazine then, but it looks more like an oddly sourced fan made set. of course, so did most everything from those dark years of FM.

He did sell a (retouched art) set in his mag and was still selling them on his wesite, last time I looked.

Hey Hugo, The Creature button you seek is in the latest Hake's auction:

It won't be cheap, but are they ever?

I noticed the similarity to James Bama's Aurora box art on most of these buttons. They look to be repaints by some hack artist. But what is SPP?

I assume you mean the Ray Ferry "retouched" art?

That's the company the made the Universal Monster wallets, wall plaques, and school bags (as well as Weird-os binders, Beatles and Batman wallets, and other fun things): SPP is Standard Plastic Products, which Mattel bought in 1966 if what I've read is correct.

Updated: Just found a great pic of the Batman wallet from '66, and it has "subsidiary of Mattel, Inc." printed on it. :

And now back to our regularly scheduled Creature badge thread (hotlinked in from Hakes').
