Hi
I'm new here, just got on board at UMA
Wanted to share my second attempt ever at making a full size figure.
I'm pretty much a Novice at this stuff but I enjoy the challenge!
And since this is a Vampires thread I'll show off my Bela here!
I was told from the person I bought the Bela bust from, that this was made by FX Masters in California ?
The only thing that was done before I built him was have Blue eyes installed to stay with the true color
of Lugosi 's eyes.   He stands about 6'2"  Joe

P.S. Hey Bill ( FRANKENBILL ) Love the Colin Clive Busts you sold me, I'll be making a
Dr. Frankenstein figure one of these days!! Thanks, Joe :) :)

Welcome aboard, Relic!

Very enviable piece!
VERY nice!

I compared side by side, and this sculpt seems to be a
cast of the Sideshow Dracula bust.
I wonder...did you buy it on ebay?
There was a seller peddling many of the Sideshow
1:1 scale busts (Uiversal Monsters).

Thanks Jeff ( FRANKEinstein )
I bought the bust locally from a friend, but I think he bought the Bela off Ebay
He did have a photo of the Bela from the company ad. You can see FX Masters logo
on the lower left of the ad, I'm not sure if this will help identify
the origin of the piece? Joe

FRANKEinstein

Thats the sculpt alright.....

Well, glad to see the info on it anyway...

There was a bit of an "open sseason" on
these Sideshow 1:1 busts after the Universal License
ran out....

Not too sure about the "FX MASTER" though!
perhaps, "FX RECASTER?" (lol)

Anyways all in all it's a great piece!
PERFECT for a lifesize Drac!

Thanks, Jeff for your info!
They definitely look very similar in appearance, and being novice and new at this game
I wouldn't know if this was an original or some kind of knock off of an original!
It just seems odd that a company that supposedly made these ( FX MASTERS )
would go out of it's way to do this advertising, print up boxes, an literature without
having a licensing agreement with Universal. Wouldn't they know they would get
caught! It's right out there in the open for everyone to see I think that would have been
a mistake on their part!
I did some research and found their website info
http://www.sbicamerica.com/portfolio/fxmaster/index.htm although I couldn't
find the info on the Bela piece, It's seems like it is or was a pretty big company that did a lot
of great stuff!
Could it have been possible that this company made the prototype for Side Show?
and Side Show bought the rights to produce them ? The only difference I see is Side Show's piece has clothing
and FX Master doesn't! Could that scenario have played out?
It just seems odd that a bonafide company as big as they look, would risk everything by
making a knock off without having some kind of licensing agreement ! That's just my take on it!
But then again people or companies make stupid decisions sometimes !
But I'm still happy with the piece, I think it's a pretty good likeness of Bela and everyone that sees
him thinks so also! Joe

I was just reading FX Master's Bio and it said which I probably didn't catch the first time
QuoteFX Masters is a state of the art Special Effects and Prototyping facility established in 1998, but with an accumulated 26 years of experience in these industries. The company was established as an on-line tutorial website devoted to training novices in the art of special makeup effects, but soon grew into a brick and mortar shop specializing in Sculpting, Mould Making, Casting, Painting and on-set implementation of various effects and costumes. Founded by Paul Barnes, FX Masters has grown into a trusted and well respected asset to our clients, who include Universal Pictures, Nintendo, Disney/Pixar, Idea Planet, TUKA Tech, The Hollywood Wax Museum, Speedo, City of Palmdale, Sideshow Productions, Craftwork Orange Studio, and many more.

It does say at the bottom that they had Side Show Productions and Universal Pictures as part of their list of clientele, which lends to the possibility and probable likelyhood they did the prototype Bela for them!
Wow do I possibly have a Side Show prototype? Joe

That's a beautiful display on a Dracula piece Mac. Definitely the best I've seen.

I know of those people, they are infamous re casters,They did a Dracula for the Hollywood wax museum using a recast of the  sideshow Dracula(with brown eyes) and said it was an original same thing with an the sideshow Karloff Bey they recast it and said it was an original, they also take credit for other people's work, some of the wax figures were done by a friend of mine and they were given the task of touching them up and now they claim they did them.
