Phantom Stranger

"Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"

Excellent! Easily the best film in the franchise since the original. Great FX, good story and terrific acting from the whole cast. I loved it. Can't wait for part 5.

The last week or so I've watched:
"Blade Runner: The Final Cut" (1982): Still one the great science fiction classics of the last 30 years.
"Bride of the Monster" (1956): goofy but enjoyable. I'm still trying to figure out how a giant octopus could live in a swamp, though....;)
"Dragonheart" (1996): a decent  fantasy film with two "Harry Potter" actors to boot. The CGI dragon looks a bit dated now, but the movie's still worth a look.
"Dragonheart: A New Beginning" (2000): direct-to-video kiddie crap.
"Robocop" (1987): another favorite from the 80's. I hadn't realized how many actors in this went on to appear in various incarnations of "Star Trek".

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

I've heard because the octopus wasn't working, Bela had to place the tentacles on himself.  Fortunately, Tor Jhonson was a special effect that never malfunctioned.

King Kong 2005....so stinkin horrible.  I feel like the world is doomed after watching such a train wreck of a movie.  Grrr...

It's right up there with The Wolfman 2010, Godzilla 1998, Deniro's Frankenstein and Planet of the Apes 01' for the worst, modern "updates" ever...

I hate Kong 05 the most though.  I can't think of a film in recent memory that I was more excited to see...you'd think Kong would be something pretty easy to pull off...I even enjoy the 76 film...but the 05 version manages to do just about everything wrong in my opinion.  To make things worse...they nailed the designs of Kong and the V-Rexes....perfect...too bad they exist on the floating turd that is this movie

Ya gotta be kidden me. Kong was lengthy and had some stupid scenes. I hated the fact that Kong ,an aprox 15 ton ape could move like Spiderman. IMO it was a lengthy but fun popcorn flick and I loved the spider/bug pit and the way Kong demolished the NY downtown area.
Wolfman 2010 sucked? ?? WAAAAY different than the classic but still a great movie. More like a CG enhanced Hammer flick.

P.O.T.A remake I thought was not bad until the stupid last couple minutes. Seen it at least 4-5 X.

I am in fact, not kidding you.  I am a HUGE Kong fan and I honestly prefer the 70's version to the 05.  Kong was actually scary in the 76 film, it had a wonderful score, the character were completely different from the 33 film, but I still felt something for them whereas in the new film, the human character are lame, boring white bread...

I do not like the Spider-Man Kong that you speak of, or the spectacle that Peter Jackson feels he needs to wow the viewer with at every possible turn...the brontosaurus stampede is absolutely horrible, Kong fighting 3 v rexes is stupid and not to mention the original fight against one t-rex/ allosaur had so much more spectacle to it...it's a slower fight but a better one, you can tell what's going on and Kong is kind of the underdog in it...you are able to feel something for him in that fight while in the new film it's like watching someone else play a video game.  (Fyi, the video game version of this movie is FANTASTIC!!)

I also think they try waaaaay to hard to make Kong sympathetic.  I think the original film works so well because Kong is a monster throughout it until the very end when you realize he just doesn't want to be alone...and that men are the real monsters.  I would have rather Kong been a little less politically and scientifically correct, and reverted back to his carnivore roots.  The book, King of Skull Island, presents an excellent example of why Kong was a meat eater....the movie could have done something like that.

I'm really worried that if/when they ever do make a Creature From the Black Lagoon remake that it will suffer the same fate as all of the other ones I mentioned... :(

Well, I disagree with your assessment of The Wolfman (not perfect by any stretch, but hardly comparable with Jackson's Folly) but agree entirely on the other movies. I hate Jackson's "Kong" more with every viewing, but I still pop it in occasionally (with finger poised over the FF button) just because it LOOKS so darn good. Especially Kong in NYC (except for that cinematic abortion on the frozen pond.........freaking HATE that).

A missed opportunity.
