Who is the better make-up artist?

Keep in mind that Baker is a member here.  That doesn't mean we have to tiptoe around the subject, but just an FYI.

Me three, Baker all the way.   Both are extremely talented, but Baker's name brings images of monsters, where Savini just conjures gore for me.   Baker's FX on The Increadible Melting Man were fantastic.

Yes, for diversity of subject matter I'll vote for Baker too, but both are extremely talented
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

My thoughts as well.

Dr. Madd

I voted Savini, mostly because I've always liked his work, but really the two are not even the same type of SFX. Savini does some of the creature effects, true, but Baker is better at that.. Savini's better at violent effects, and I'm not sure Baker is as good there. Apples and oranges.

Baker's career has been much longer and more diverse. Tom cut back on practical effects work some years ago to consentrate on acting and teaching as the industry moved to CGI.

Can I add Rob Bottin?

Yup.

Moonshadow

Another for Baker. A talented artist, and tremendously versatile too.

Cinemacabre

Baker too. But Bottin and Savini are both champs too.
