...and Lugosi smacked that silver mirrored cigarette box out of Van Helsing's hands, which should have taken his hand with it, if he had a silver allergy.
Yes, another excellent example, Monster Bob. No idea if Countess Marya Zaleska's hypnotic ring was silver or gold. (Now, that would be a cool prop replica to have, too! As would the Alucard ring!)

I consulted Kim Newman, author of the "Anno Dracula" book series, and he said the first reference he could think of dealing with silver being lethal to vampires was 1972's "The Satanic Rites of Dracula," in which Peter Cushlng attempts to shoot Christopher Lee with a silver bullet. However, I then remembered a scene in 1970's "House of Dark Shadows" in which the Sheriff of Collinsport is distributing silver bullets to those hunting Barnabas Collins. He warns they'll only kill him if they strike him in the heart! So, to my knowledge, that's the first pop culture reference of silver being lethal to vampires.

There are several Vampire slaying kits (some are supposed to be actually Victorian, but no doubt some are fake) which include Silver Bullets.  When you're talking popular fiction, it's kind of weird that a Romanian Count would transform himself into a  winged  rodent from Latin America, and would even include a picture of the rodent as part of his crest. Since Dracula was supposed to be 500 years old in 1930, did they even know about Vampire bats in 1430?  But, as far as folklore is concerned, Vampires dislike of silver could go back centuries.  With Pop culture, I now realize the idea of silver being a problem for vampires is fairly recent.

If I could find my copy of J. Gordan Melton's "The Vampire Book," I could probably nail down exactly when silver entered vampire pop culture. I don't think either Polidori's "The Vampyre" or LeFanu's "Carmilla" use silver as a weapon against vampires, and it sure wasn't in Stoker. I know it was part of the folklore (depending upon the region), but I don't think it entered popular vampire lit and film until the '50s at the earliest. I'll have to do some more digging, just to satisfy my own curiousity.

The replacement for my Elite Edition ring finally arrived today. Gorgeous, and I've still got #005/600 on my COA.

Anyone else receive their rings yet? I've only worn the Elite Edition once, but I wear the Collector's Edition somewhat regularly. Was wondering what others thought of the quality, etc.
