As the Nelson boys grew into their upper teens, it was Rick Nelson who became the better known of the two, thanks to his music career.  David, though pretty much equally featured in the family comedy series, was always in the shadow of his musically talented younger brother.  Dad Ozzie Nelson was a popular orchestra leader in the '30s, and mom Harriet Hilliard was Ozzie's featured singer--a lot of talent ran in the family, and David, after the tv series ended, was in several movies and did some tv, and he became a successful producer.  A sidelight: in the late 1950s, David discovered he had a talent for high-wire/trapeze performing and that led to key roles in two circus films, THE BIG CIRCUS and THE BIG SHOW.  But as far as history goes, it will be as a member of the Nelson family in the long running tv series that he'll be remembered.  Rest in peace now, Mr. Nelson.
