Verne Langdon

I understand that Verne Langdon, a great in the world of masks and monster make-up, passed away on Saturday, 1/1/11.  He was the person behind the Don Post Calendar Masks that we found in Famous Monsters magazines and the great Verne Langdon Zombie mask:

In addition, he was a talented composer, and the creator and producer of such classics as "An Evening with Boris Karloff and His Friends", "The Phantom Of The Organ" and "Vampyre at the Harpsichord" just to name a few.
Certainly monster mask history would not be the same without his creative work. 
Rest in peace.

I just heard from David Colton--David is seeking confirmation, as there seems to be some question as to the veracity of the report.  In this particular case, it seems we need to hold on for a further bulletin....so let's hope for the best.

Let's hope it isn't true.  I got the info from a pretty reliable source, but we can hope that there was a mix up of some sort.

Sorry to say, the report seems to be true that Verne passed away on the 1st day of 2011.  He was a man of so many varied talents.  One project of his that I enjoyed so much was the lp record album he created with John Carradine, POE WITH PIPES I think it was called.  Verne played eldritch organ music and Carradine recited the poetry of E.A. Poe.  Verne was constantly creative.

I got the news from Eliot Brodsky from Monsterpalooza... Verne was the Master of Ceremonies for both previous 'paloozas, and I enjoyed every moment, every question answered, every laugh I shared with Verne at those gatherings. He'd dress as Dracula on the first day, walking around reciting lines from Bela's films, and we got pictures together every time.

It's sad to think I won't be doing that again this April.

Thank you for your work, your art, your music and your sense of childlike fun, Mr. Langdon.

Sad news to report, the passing of the Great Verne Langdon.

All will join me here in expressing what a debt of gratitude we all owe Verne.  For it was his talents, and guidance of the Don Post Studios that gave us his artistic visions of all the Classic Universal Monsters masks from those glory days of the Monster Craze of the early 60's.  He greatly influenced my masks collecting, and I'm sure is responsible for this very site.

His passing at this time of year, like his good friend Forry before him, makes for a very hollow start to the new year.  I will celebrate his memory each time I gaze upon my masks collection, and as with FJA, come to terms saying goodbye to one of my Heroes.

A Renaissance Man to the whole monster genre if there ever was one...An unexpected, immeasurable loss to all that we hold dear at this group. I always expected i'd meet him one day at Chiller, but sadly this never happened. RIP Verne and thank you for making being a monster kid in the 60's and 70's all the more fun. What an awful way to start the new year...

 His 'Vampire at the Harpsicord' album has brought me years of pleasure, and I've dreamed of owning his Zombie mask for most of my life.  A truely talented man, and one all old school monster kids will remember always.  R.I.P. mr. Langdon.

I am very, very sorry to hear this news.  This man was one of the greats, not only for the many and varied things he did but for his friendly personality.  A sad start to the year.  RIP Verne Langdon

Oh, when I heard this news this morning I was so shocked..  this was unexpected.  I had not heard from him for a few weeks.

I am very sorry to hear this as well. Met and chatted with him at Monsterpalooza 2010, and picked up a coupe of CDs, including one from when he was a Producer on a Monster show at Universal.
