Blake Edwards, husband of Julie Andrews, director of the PINK PANTHER films, VICTOR/VICTORIA, 10 (Bo Derek's breakthrough) and many other memorable movies--and on tv, the popular PETER GUNN series--passed away at the age of 88.  Edwards will be remembered, too, for serious work like THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES and for Audrey Hepburn's fine work in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S.

His collaborations with Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther movies brought me hours of joy as a lad. Thanks for the laughs Blake. RIP.

I loved his WheelChair gag at the Oscars when he rec'd his Honorary/Lifetime Oscar
"In each of us, two natures are at war--the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer..."

The Creeper

Man he was great!  Rest In Peace Mr. Edwards.
Long live the UMA!

What was the "WheelChair gag"?

Also wanted to mention a nifty thriller called "Experiment in Terror".

I can watch the Pink Panther movies over and over and still crack up.  They were always some of my favorites.  He made some great films and will be remembered for them.

Mike - pardon my ignorance (and lack of searching) but I didn't realize there was a show or movie called "Experiment in Terror".  Just thought that was a great Henry Mancini song (theme to our beloved Creature Features show from the early 70s).

Here are the details: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055972/
1962 with Glenn Ford, Lee Remick and Ross Martin as the creepy bad guy.

Mancini did the score, as he did for most of Edwards' movies.

This is a terrible loss. Blake's Pink Panther films are hilarious and among my all time favorite comedies. He will be sorely missed.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

"Experiment In Terror" is one of my favorite films! None of the version of the theme song I've found are as cool as the one in the movie. The film version starts with an ominous single held bass note and drums while the Columbia logo is shown, then it goes into the rest posted in that youtube video. Just that little bit of difference changes the song for me and really sets the tone of the film. I highly recommend it but the film is out of print and copies usually go for about $50 and up.
Here's a link where you can check out the intro - http://www.amazon.com/Experiment-in-Terror/dp/B00455KPA6/ref=ed_oe_vdr/182-4937349-2886537 - click on the free preview button and crank the speakers. LOL

That is quite often the case with Edwards/Mancini film tunes.

The film title version of A SHOT IN THE DARK is much cooler than the vinyl release version (and unfortunately there was never a soundtrack album), and you can't even get the film version of SHADOWS OF PARIS (sung by Elsie Bianchi), which the film opens to.

Same is true with the fabulous IT HAD BETTER BE TONIGHT (MEGLIO STASERA) from THE PINK PANTHER. The original Fran Jeffries' film version was never released commercially. I do have about 30 versions of the song by other artists, though...!

I owe this man a resounding THANK YOU, as he produced, wrote, directed many of my favorite comedies.

Maybe it's just me, but my favorite film of his, is "The Great Race".  I saw it when it first came out before I turned 10, and it still seems just as funny to this day as when I first saw it.
