Not a movie but really perfect for getting in the mood for Halloween are the two episodes of Tales from the Darkside that deal with the holiday.  The very first episode of the series titled Trick or Treat and a later episode Halloween Candy are very well done and deal with miserly old men who get their just desserts on Halloween night.
both of theses episodes put me in the halloween spirit instantly!!!
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Any one of the various versions of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, from Disney's The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad to Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.
i've only seen tim burton's sleepy hollow. Is the rest of the movies you listed any good?

For some odd reason, the old universal monster films do not give me the halloween feeling for some reason.  ???

For me, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman and Phantom do, but the Mummy and 50s movies (even Creature) don't.

Not a horror movie, but Arsenic and Old Lace is fun on halloween. Ditto House on Haunted Hill.

No the one that came out last year with "Sam". It is a Halloween themed anthology with stories that loosely tie into each other. One of the best new Halloween movies in recent years.

Highly recommended OG.

Thanks Baron, need to get this into the Netflix cue

I'm with you Mike........being a New England boy myself, I never tire of Sleepy Hollow and always am excited to find a new incarnation to scare up memories of Halloweens past.

Just ordered it, only to discover it on back order. Since it is available, you might try looking on Amazon for this.

The only other one I mentioned was the Disney, which is good, especially if you saw it as a kid. I also remember an '80s TV movie, with Jeff Goldblum as Icabod, that was very good. Not sure if it's on home video, though?
