Today, July 21 is a sad day for us FRANKENSTEIN fans. Basil Rathbone known to us as Victor Frankenstein, and Sherlock Holmes, passed away on this day in 1967.

Basil played Wolf Frankenstein did he not? He's got to be my favourite actor! He's also in low budget horrors The Black Sleep and Queen of Blood. What a great one.

I do believe his name in Son Of Frankenstein was Victor, Wolf could be a middle name . I'll do some checking to see what is what.

Shoot, I've creepy-crawled cemeteries all over the place. LOVE grave hunting, and so does Nancy. And so does Jordan for that matter. We went to Memphis and Jordan went with us to the cemetery where Elvis was originally interred and he STILL talks about it. Nancy and I have been to all the major cemeteries in L.A.

I've got graphite rubbings of the graves of John Ritter, Bela Lugosi, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Stan Laurel........God knows how many. The only cool grave in Florida we know about is Jackie Gleason's and we went there not too long ago too.

I love cemeteries........I hope to be buried in one some day.  ;)

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Yes, a little confusion here--Colin Clive was Victor Frankenstein in FRANKENSTEIN and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.  Then Rathbone played his son, Baron Wolf von Frankenstein, in SON OF FRANKENSTEIN.

And of course to mention Rathbone brings to mind also his many Sherlock Holmes films, and (to me) his very funny role in COMEDY OF TERRORS and serious one in TALES OF TERROR--both with Vincent Price.  Ditto TOWER OF LONDON ('39), also with Vinnie!  But honestly, my favorite Rathbone villain--and a black-hearted son-of-a-buck he is, too--is is role as Mr. Murdstone in the 1935 version of DAVID COPPERFIELD.  Those of you who've seen that film might also remember that his sister, Miss Jane Murdstone, is played by the great Violet Kemble Cooper, who played Karloff's mother in THE INVISIBLE RAY.  Great Caesar's Ghost!  What talents there were in those days, eh?

He is legendary in Comedy of Terrors and Tales of Terror. Those Corman films are the second best thing that ever happened to me.

I remember watching David Copperfield in English in first year, about a year and a half before I was plunged into the wonderful world of classic horror. The scenes we watched were the ones with Rathbone and the ones when David ran away. I can remember everything except Rathbone, but I faintly recall wishing his character would be killed- he was so nasty! It was a shame we never watched any more of that film again.

I bought Rathbone's autobiography the other day, I'll start reading it next week or so.
