I know he wasn't directly involved in the usual topics of this forum, but I'll bet there isn't a monster kid who did not remember Jimmy Dean.

He passed away today at the age of 81.
I remember him for his occasional appearances on Daniel Boone, and his own variety show.  It was on the Jimmy Dean Show that the Muppets really gained national attention.
When I was a kid, I met him after a country music concert in Salt Lake City.  He was gracious to his autograph-seeking fans--especially the kids.

My parents were big fans and we never missed the variety show.  And the early Muppetry was a big plus for me, too!  Jimmy always seemed like "family".  Rest in peace now.

The only Muppet I remember as a 'regular' on Jimmy Dean's show was Rowlf the Dog (and an occasional guest spot by Kermit The Frog). This is my original Ideal Rowlf puppet, circa 1965, which I used to manipulate during JD's show. On the right, a MIB one I picked up a decade ago (the only boxed one I've ever seen). They only made Rowlf and Kermit (with red sweater), seen on right bottom...



We called him "Ralph".

Wow, I had no idea that Rowlf was ever merchandised prior to the Fisher-Price version from the late 70's. Is that a Cuddly Dudley behind him in the first pic?

It is Cuddley Dudley, George. He was a regular in Chicago on WGN-TV's Ray Rayner and Friends, and later Bozo Show. I know CD was also used elsewhere around the country (but I don't believe he was the TV classic he was in Chicago). The one pictured is a 12" small Cuddley premium from the 70s. The Chicago Tribune also had a 1960s large version, which was the size of the actual TV puppet. The little Cuddley shown seems to be much harder to find, in my experience anyway.
