Very sad to hear this...he created some great and wonderful things!  Including Gumby and Davey and Goliath, and the opening sequence of How To Stuff A Wild Bikini...a real visionary in animation.
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

AH! No, Art Clokey... well, 89's a fine ol' age for someone so free and different... if you haven't seen Gumbasia, you need to find it.
Thanks for the myriad influences, Mr. Clokey!

Damn.

This is pretty sad. He had a very rough childhood, including being put in a foster home by his mother after she remarried and his birth father passed away. His daughter took her life after a traumatic experience. He was indeed a visionary artist, and gave birth to a wonderful iconic image of a lot of our childhoods.

God rest his soul.

One of my prized possessions:

I remember when my oldest daughter was a baby, she would sit in her highchair and eat and watch cartoons. For whatever reason when Gumby came on she would get excited and slap her hands excitedly on the tray! It was neat to see her appreciate something I enjoyed when I was a child.

Thanks for all the fun Art.

The Drunken Severed Head

Yahoo is reporting he was 88...?

Anyway, I grew up with Gumby and Davey and Goliath. He made my childhood better.

Oh boy, I sure loved Gumby and Pokey as a kid. Mr. Clokey was a true original thinker.

It's tough getting older- seems like every year, more people I know or at least respect are taken from this Earth.

This breaks my heart, I've always loved his work!

Clokey did the clay- animated title for DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE BIKINI MACHINE and HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI.

Loved his stuff and like many of you I had the rubber and wire Gumby and Pokey toys as a kid. I am a big fan of "Davey and Goliath". If you ever get the chance, check out the Christmas and Halloween episodes.

My music is for Phoenix. Only she can sing it. Anyone else who tries, dies.
