20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is on TCM right now and it got me to wonderin' what cool stuff you guys might have related to this film or the ride at the Disney theme parks.

I really miss the ride at Disney, it was one of my favorite things about going there and i have very fond memories of riding it when I was young.

Just about the only thing I have is the poster they sold in the parks for the ride. It's beautiful and someday I need to get it framed. I've always wanted some Nautilus items but I've just never gotten around to getting any.

So, what do you have???

- The Laserdisc of the Disney film
- The wonderful Viewmaster reel set- not Disney, but done to cash in on it
- The best English translation of Verne's original novel, with vintage illos

I think Forry Ackerman had a large-sized miniature of the submarine (from the film) in the 1980s. It was sitting in his backyard, discolored by the LA elements, then someone walked off with it!

Did see one of the original movie Nautilii models, at a MOMA exhibit a few years back.

Here's the "knockoff" VM packet, plus another that I forgot:

I don't have a pic of it available, but I have the LIFE magazine with 20K Leagues divers on the cover.  I'd love a model/toy of the Nautilus, but they tend to be costly.

One of those cool old Wonderland Records with Wally Wood cover art.

Mezco recently did a 20,000 Leagues Captain Nemo playset which includes a tiny model of the Nautilus. It should still be findable at a reasonable price.

Am I the only one that can't stand the stuff Mezco puts out?

Thanks for sharing the 20,000 Leagues items guys!

Here's my Nautilus, made by X-Plus in 2002.  About 15 inches long--prop is turn-able, and the slanting...uh...rudders?...can be moved up and down.  Flash washed out the color, but I gave it a darker color than shows, dry-brushed with metallic bronze.  Looks cool in person!

And of no value, but my childhood copy of 20,000 LEAGUES given to me in 1957 by my Great-Aunt Vi...I was 10 and thought it was the best book I'd ever read--

Dear Readin' Robert-

Think I probably read it about that age, too, courtesy of the Ayersville Middle School Library. After first loving the Classics Comic, where, when I got old enough, I always took the tag, "...and now, be sure to read the original!..." to heart!

Do you know of the more recent translation into English by Walter James Miller, considered to be the first really faithful, non-juvenilized one?

Best,
