Reptiles are a different story.  I love reptiles!  Lizards, snakes, turtles, all those scaly critters.

I'm like Jonathan the Zombie.  I like turtles.  I have several as companions.

Dang that's cool, PK!  Do you get to hold it and pet it?  Do you want to?  What do your girls think of it?  Best of luck with him and here's to many years of spiderosity!

Thanks for the update Paul.  Now to find you a mantis to put in with him and we can settle that battle right here.

Nice hairy spider Paul. If I were to own a pet spider, I think I would name it 'Ralph' in honor of the Sid Haig character portrayed in the 1968 movie Spider Baby. I know .. "go get your own spider".

Hi Jeffrey, Gary and the rest!  I probably won't be handling him, although that breed is very docile. I  think in the long run he'll be happier if left to his own hairy adventures. Clara loves him, Mom is coming around - she has conceded he's quite beautiful and we're all "wildlife warriors". He really does make the perfect accessory to a monster room - you can't deny it! I generally dispose with no mercy of spidies in the house. But think about it - you can have a real live little monster in a tank! What's not to love!  So far his favorite story is "The Monkey's Paw" - it makes him he roll over and lay upside down - What a card!!! Well thanks for the support and for letting me share my excitement - as soon as he turns into the Angry Red Planet spider I'll let you know -

How can you be scared of something so small & fuzzy? I think it's kinda cute! :D

Paul,

I've held a tarantula, an emperor scorpion, an Afican millipede, and a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach.  These guys aren't all that bad, but they have lousy publicists.  As long as you're careful, I'd say you can handle your new pet from time to time.  If people here have never met Paul, he looks like this:

Or Raymond's what?!?! :o
I was diggin' the tarantula. My favorite horror movies involve spiders in some way (Tarantula, Kingdom Of Spiders, This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse).

In spite of being a Coffin Joe fan, I'm positively terrified of spiders. If I see anything in my house with eight legs running around, I'm going to squish it.

When I was a small girl, I tried collecting spiders in my basement because my mother wouldn't let us have pets. My grandma lived with us & she absolutely hated spiders.  One day, while I was at school, she found my "pets" & murdered them. :'(
