Title: Mask sightings at horror/sci-fi conventions
Post by: Sir Masksalot on August 01, 2022, 01:40:57 PM
Masks are fun to look at, whether being worn or displayed on a sale rack.

On entering the dealers room at Midsummer Scream last weekend, I encountered
someone wearing a TrickorTreat Frankenstein. He must've just purchased it
since the tag was still attached >

TrickorTreatStudios' official table was but a few steps away. They've finally added
a Mole People mask to their display. This was a first for me >

'Looks like they darkened the paint on their Wolfman, far left. 'Much better, I think >

Jasper Andersen also had a table at the show. On display was a copy of the
Wolfman he sculpted for ToTS which he custom finished in DPS Calendar
style. It'd be worth buying one just to hit him up for a repaint >

'Mystery mask at the Chaney Entertainment booth. 'Obviously the Ape Man from
A Blind Bargain (1922) but does anybody know who made it? I didn't see one
in the ToTS catalog >

I'll add more pics as I take them in coming months. For now, reply with images
of your own. All the best dressed monsters wear masks!

Can't say I'm a fan of the eye black on those Franks; I prefer the more subtle paint on my copy. But the darker Wolf Man looks great.

'Plenty of fun stuff to see at Son of Monsterpalooza this weekend:

Thanks Sir Masksalot for the fantastic photographs of the October show.  The "Monsterpalooza" and "Son of Monterpalooza" events always appear to be such fun. I was unable to find good coverage of the either show this year on any of the other monster forums.  So your photographs of both events are very much appreciated. Hopefully someday before I'm planted... I will make it one of these incredible events.

I especially enjoyed seeing the photos of the Legacy Karloff Frankenstein 1931 bust.  That is quite an impressive piece.  It is a Frankenstein lover's dream to be sure.

The Halloween Society display photos are also some of my favorites that you posted.  Those historic pieces are just so cool. The Fredric March "Mr. Hyde" is still the best creepy likeness to date of the character in my opinion.

Here are a few more photos of the bust from the Legacy FX's website from some years ago. I saved these pictures for my archives. All of the photos of the silicone Karloff Frankie have now been removed from their website. I will post them here on the UMA site so they can live on.  From what I recall reading at the time Legacy FX' made several of these special Karloff 31' silicone busts for a charity project. They even duplicated Karloff's large pupil eyes in their finishing which was neat.

Thanks again Sir for the always great photos and information.  Happy Halloween to all!  tynhrt

That DonCon mask display was awesome! Really cool to see the picture of the vintage Wolfman, too. Would that blood have been original? I don't think I've seen one like that before besides the calendar photo of the "A" sculpt.

I'm glad the DonCon display is still being used! I got to see it in person at DonCon and you can tell an awful lot of work went into it. It would've been a shame to be a one-and-done sort of thing.

There was plenty of mask action at last weekend's convention.

You mean between the 3 Stooges Martians?  That is also from The Outer Limits... The Chameleon episode.

Thats the Tinsley Transfers Frank mask.   Not bad but 31 Frank makes for an extremely boring mask.  I wish companies wouldn't do that version.    Be nice to see a mass produced Bride Frank.
