Title: M. Night Shyamalan Rebooting Tales From The Crypt At TNT
Post by: Count_Zirock on January 07, 2016, 02:18:10 PM
"Tales from the Crypt" is getting a series reboot at TNT, with "The Visit" director M. Night Shyamalan at the helm. The horror anthology series will feature short and long form content curated by Shyamalan. (http://comicbook.com/2016/01/07/m-night-shyamalan-rebooting-tales-from-the-crypt-at-tnt/)

This could be hit or miss. Shyamalan hasn't had the best track record.

I'll give it a shot. Nothing to lose. If I don't like it, I'll just stop watching.

Movies of his I like. A Lot.

1. Sixth Sense
2. Unbreakable
3. The Village
4. Devil
5. Signs

Thats more than enough films that I enjoy to give this reboot a shot.

I don't care about Air benders or Happenings. I watched Wayward Pines. I will eventually watch The Visit. I don't care what critics say, and in most cases even my peers.

Fingers crossed for guest stars "Old Witch" and "Vault Keeper"

Anton, I caught The Visit yesterday and I'm happy to report it's Shyamalan's best film since Signs.

I thought "Signs" was pretty weak. I'll give this my usual three episodes. If it fails to keep me interested beyond the first three eps, then I'll just drop it.

How is it reinventing him if you're making him like he originally was?

I think the HBO Cryptkeeper is just such an iconic character that people have a hard time thinking about the series without him. I'll be interested to see the return to the more "serious" incarnation of him, though.

I don't like anything about this new show, but now I'm more upset that people are seriously saying that if he's not a midget skeleton puppet then he's not the Crypt Keeper.

So it's not an anthology but a season long story with the 1st season involving New Orleans voodoo?? Soooo cliche

the old witch more true to the comic then HBO.

Why would you be pleased at this? I missed this thread the first time around and now I am very disappointed with the update. If you are a fan of the franchise and genre, to see it have a rebirth, is a dream come true. I wish the show on HBO had never been cancelled and was still going today, but it is not. I would have loved to see more stories and hopefully the Crypt Keeper again. Even if it was for one movie.

Also, please don't condemn it just because it is a resurrected horror subject. The Twilight Zone, Bates Motel or other series have done this, some like them, some don't. However, we need to give things a chance. I admit, sometimes things are better left alone. However, that is usually after we see the remake and judge for ourselves.

M. Night Shyamalan has had some pictures that were entertaining.

The 6th Sense (awesome)
Signs (very interesting)
Unbreakable (which I love)
Devil
Split
The Visit....extremely creepy

I know he's not hip or fashionable these days because of his less than stellar offerings.....:ady in the Water, the Happening, The Last Airbender, and After Earth....

But dang, YMK....it's not as if he were a neanderthal unworthy of keeping the EC label in the public eye. Aside from the actual Cryptkeeper puppet and John Kassir's comedy....a lot of the HBO stuff was...well, kind of lame.

I agree with the original being "lame" at times. When I was a kid, I remember being terrified of Tales from the Crypt. Then recently I bought most of the seasons on DVD, and to be frank, I was a little disappointed. The crypt keeper was awesome, theme music, basement lair, and all that, and I really liked any episode that dealt with zombies (Till Death is by far the scariest episode) but much of their offerings were corny, poorly executed, and there were too many episodes where the supernatural was noticeably absent.

I was willing to give the new show a chance. Apparently, though, bringing it to fruition was a rights nightmare.

I never said I was a giant fan of HBO either.
I like the comics. Also I'm aware you like Signs but I literally can't understand why people like it. That's not even an attack. I just can't understand why God killed a man's wife so he would know to use a baseball bat to kill an injured alien after all the other aliens had been killed by the substance that literally covers over 70% of our planet.

True, I haven't seen much of his earlier stuff. But that particular movie I don't understand.
I did like Sixth Sense.

I dunno if I got from Signs what you did. I think the point it was trying to make was, in a dying woman's final moments, she was able to "see" beyond the current situation and uttered warnings that people dismissed as gibberish. I take it you have been fortunate enough not to be around people when they are dying. They do tend to say some things that make no sense to anyone else in attendance. This was probably MKS's way of making sense of that. Most likely because he lost someone and experienced this firsthand.

This episode called The New Arrival was pretty creepy. Here it is on You tube. This one will definitely stick in your memory.

I had pushed like, and then withdrew it, because they were using the HBO puppet to promote the show, when they were clear that he would be in it, and they were also using John Kassir's laugh.  Then the showed at least one scene that I remember from a film about going into the mind of a serial killer.  I dislike when they use footage, that has nothing to do with a production, to promote it.

Don't give up hope just yet;
"TNT Reveals What Is Holding Up 'Tales From The Crypt' Series

by Charlie Ridgely | July 28, 2017
SPLIT MOVIE TRAILER GALLERY
So, maybe TNT's Tales From the Crypt isn't dead after all?

A while back, TNT announced that a Tales From the Crypt reboot from M. Night Shyamalan was in the works, only to later dash the hopes of fans by saying that the project wasn't moving forward.

There has been a lot of confusion surrounding the series, to say the least.

This week, Turner chief creative officer Kevin Reilly said that the problem surrounding the Crypt reboot lies in a complicated situation with the rights to the property.

"It's been fun with lawyers, it's been really fun," Reilly said. "We did not know from the get-go or else we would not have announced it and made a big deal out of it. But in fact there were rights. It is among the most — if not the most — complicated rights structure I've ever seen in my career, and we had no idea as we got into it. It became a nightmare. So we said, 'Fine.' If and when this gets cleaned up, we'll revisit."

If it was able to happen before there should be no reason to doubt that it could still happen again.

That whole trailer was fan-made.  It wasn't an official TNT ad.  They obviously used legitimate footage of an interview with MNS, but the rest was comprised of clips from horror films and Penny Dreadful... and the old TFTC.
