Title: 'Brides' of Dracula Lands at NBC
Post by: Count_Zirock on September 01, 2015, 05:47:59 PM
Considering how terrible NBC's "Dracula" series was, all I can say is, "Why?"
Brides of Dracula Drama From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Greg Berlanti Lands At NBC With Pilot Production Commitment (http://deadline.com/2015/09/brides-of-dracula-tv-series-roberto-aguirre-sacasa-greg-berlanti-nbc-1201507368/)

I'm not even interested enough to watch adds for the show.

Sounds kind of dumb, personally.

Then again, this is the network that unceremoniously canceled the quality program, Hannibal, despite its rampant fanbase.

It should have been on AMC. They seem to get results with horror programming.

Yeah.  Or A&E.  Anywhere but NBC-Universal, home of the classic monsters!   :o

The nice folks at NBC-Universal beg to differ.  The classic monsters of NBC-Universal have always called NBC-Universal their home.  In fact, the classic monsters of NBC-Universal so love it at NBC-Universal, they have opted to include the name NBC-Universal in all promotional materials and in every sentence in which the classic monsters of NBC-Universal are mentioned.

I didn't even bother to click on the link. My hatred of the abominable Dracula Alexander Grayson series they did already makes me full of irrational hatred for any monster/horror show NBC tries to produce from now on. Unless I hear good things from people I trust, I will not even give this show a chance. And I plan on giving the awful sounding Mummy reboot with marines fighting Iraqi CGI sand zombies a chance!

Grimm is pretty good though.

Even if the show is good, NBC will just stick it on Friday nights at 10:00, then cancel it.

Whenever I read the word "re-imagining" in a film or show description I think "Houston, we've got a problem." And when I read words like "diverse" and "empowerment" in this show's description I can't help but think "what a load of pc horsesh*t!"

Yep.

Too much "re-imagining" these days instead of plain old imagining.

The only reason I'll watch it, if they can get Keannu Reeves to play Harker. Throw in Nicholas Cage, with a goatee and a indeterminate European accent, and you could have Television gold!

Can't we get Gary Busey in there somewhere, too? Now, THAT'S "must see TV"1

Orrrr...

They could get Paige, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch to play the Brides of D. and kill the hell out of different luchadore superheroes every week. It would be like the old Santo movies in reverse. Throw in a few accidental wardrobe malfunctions per ep and we're good to go.  ;)

Besides, these chicks could act a crap-ton better than poor Keannu, and do it while delivering a figure 8, disarmer, or rampaige.  ;D

I groaned with despair when I saw this, but there's one thing, one possible silver lining, that gave me pause: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He's the writer on Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, two of the most highly acclaimed horror comics on shelves right now, and being a loyal reader of the latter, I can tell you it's no joke. His Sabrina comic has the tone and style of 60s and 70s Satanic chillers like Rosemary's Baby, The Sentinel, The Exorcist, The Omen, and it's very effective. He clearly knows his horror roots, and if his involvement is great enough, it's not impossible that he could turn what sounds like Sex in the City meets True Blood into something actually genuinely interesting.

I've still got the jitters about it, make no mistake. It's NBC, and I haven't forgotten when they did to Dracula either. But the involvement of Aguirre-Sacasa gives me just a tiny bit of hope.

And can the undead sleep in cardboard boxes with packing peanuts like Johnny Depp?
