Freddie asked me to post these pics for him as he's having a hard time posting them himself. Some very cool stuff here, so everyone strap on your drool cups! Hopefully Freddie will provide the guided tour...

No problem and great (massive!) collection!
Fred...I am in AWE! Especially those Bride of Franky posters! NEVER saw them before AND it's my favorite movie of all time! How i wish someone would hire Zach to go into a studio and film him hosting this movie ala his early Shock Theater days! How COOL would that be? I'd probably set my DVD player on repeat and NEVER leave my house again!
Very cool collection! Lots of different stuff mixed in there...Really diggin the vintage posters Fred!
Nice vintage collection! There are some quality key pieces in it. Impressive!
man there's some nice monster stuff there
I'm knocked out by the fact that some of the toys such as the Ideal Haunted House and the MPC Horror House Target Set look to be M.I.B.!
:o
the Ideal Haunted House box is not mint...but the Horror House target set is the best one I've ever seen in person. Luckily i bought the MPC Horror House back in the early 1990's for a mere $50.00 and the Ideal Haunted House i got last year in an antique shop filled with furniture for $40.00.........needless to say i had heart palpitations when i saw it!
Nice collection!
Man, I love to hear stories like the one about your Ideal Haunted House game. It inspires me that my yard sale and antique shop hunts aren't in vain (vein?)...
IT IS THE THRILL OF THE HUNT! WE WILL BE POSTING MORE PIX LATER TONIGHT IF MIKE SCOTT IS WILLING.....! IF ANY OF YOU HAVE SCARY MONSTERS # 2008 YEAR BOOK MY COLLECTION IS ALSO FEATURED THERE.
Wow! Freddie that is such a superb collection of monster goodness.I really like the way you have displayed it all and you just have some of coolest items ever.An inspiration to us all.
Thanks for sharing those pics Freddie! Love that collection of yours - big time. You forgot to include your tattoos. ;)
Ill get to the tats later! thanks Terry! Lol. for the record: the House Of Poe Collection consists of 1960's pre 1975 monster toys, original movie posters & stills from the silent era to 1969 plus foreign posters, spook show related, vintage monster mags, vintage model kits, trading cards, paperbacks, first edition hard covers, horror comics pre code to warrens, halloween costumes & masks, a few rubber masks, record albums pre 1975, autographs, weird-ohs & nutty mads, space toys, horrible hamiltons, metal lunch boxes, vintage cap guns, funeral related and curri-oddites...........
Always more impressive to see than I can articulate. What is the box on top on the Lakeside drawing set?
hey Fiend! that is the PRESSMAN WITCH DOCTOR SHRUNKEN HEAD SET MIB
More pix on the way. Mike Scott has been more than kind to take over this task for me via Mike Gilks (a longtime fiend) . I am a computer moron and after 15 years on the dam thing! i hate modern tech but i guess we couldnt do this kind of thing w/o it. you would all have to come over my house ....which i think would be MORE fun!!! LOLOLOLOL and ANY UMA memeber who ever ventures up this way to good ole Worcester Ma (the arm pit of the universe) is more than welcome at the House of Poe aka Fredericks of Horrorwood . An open invite to any! thanks Freddie

A simply MAGNIFICENT collection !!!!!
What's the story on those 2 mummy dudes?
MUMMY DUDES!?!? They have Boobs!! They are Female. I bought those at the Brimfield Antique show last year. I figured they belonged in the House of Poe. although my girlfiend Jayme said what the hell are you going to do with them??? by the way. the cap gun collection belongs to my girlfriend "Cap Gun Girl"
Sadly enough, a lot of dudes I know have boobs at this age (past 40).
Quote from: freddie poe on April 09, 2013, 09:01:06 PM
MUMMY DUDES!?!? They have Boobs!!
Really? The ones with the hats, holding bowls?
yea Mike its hard to see in the pix but they are female Mummies. the bowls are for Tana Leaves!
I like the way everything is so nicely displayed! Three questions though:
1. Did you build and paint those models yourself?
2. Do the Aurora boxes in this pic contain M.I.B. kits?
3. What are your holy grail items that you're still seeking?
???
Hey Fiend! yes i built and painted the kits, most of them years ago but some as of late, while my eyes are going (one eye is pretty bad from my boxing days) my technique seems to be getting better. yes the Aurora kits are in the box, i have them both ways. Built ups & unbuilt in the box- the boxes are not mint. I have the monster scenes store display. Holy Grails.. in toys...? lots! Whatever i dont have is a GRAIL to me..!
Quote from: freddie poe on April 09, 2013, 10:22:06 PMWhatever i dont have is a GRAIL to me..!
Yes, I know the feeling. My interests/wants keep expanding too as I learn about other items.
:-\
Freddie Poe, you rock!
When can I move in?
Unbelievable. My eyes are killing me for spending so much time gawking at the monster goodness. And you don't live in Worcester, MA, you live in Bester, MA
Freddie,
Every time i look at your thread, the heavy pic laden content sends my Flintstones computer into stalling fits. Always worth the wait, though! You have a real flair for decorating & everything is so perfectly displayed. You really SHOULD do a Kirk Hammett type of book... Thanks again for finally joining our group!!
Great collection of monster stuff! I had fun looking at it. And it's all in Worcester-I live in Karloffornia, now, but I
grew up in Everett ,MA not too far from you. I especially like that black and white Karloff/Mummy poster with the lightening coming out of his bulging eyes- I don't think I ever saw that one before.
Hey Monolith Home Boy! Be lucky you moved to Karlofforia! you aint missing nothing in Ma.! its sucks now!!
Gilks! stop saying "finally joined our group!" i joined FIRST in 2001/2 !!! i just been on a lenghty sabatical!!!! LOL!! I love ya Bro!!!! Poe
Quote from: freddie poe on April 11, 2013, 02:24:40 PMHey Monolith Home Boy! Be lucky you moved to Karlofforia! you aint missing nothing in Ma.! its sucks now!!
MA still has snow, doesn't it?
???
IN SOME AREAS SNOW IS STILL LINGERING ON ESP IN PARKING LOTS WHERE IT WAS PILED TWO STORIES HIGH!!!!!!! IT JUST MELTED OFF MY YARD THE OTHER DAY. GOOD REASON NOT TO LIVE IN MASS. BUT CANADA MUST HAVE THEIR MOMENTS! LOL
I meant that snow is a plus.
;)
Not if your still using a shovel!!!
Growing up there I loved the snow. Snowball fights, building snow men and snow monsters, even made some igloos.
And if we got a lot of it we wouldn't have to go to school.
Did you know Everett Ma is 1/3 residence, 1/3 industry and 1/3 cemetery?
Thanks for sharing your collection with us! It is a feast for these monster-loving eyes.
On your model shelves, I'm not familiar with those tortured guys on the lower left. What are those?
And what is that big, "super deformed" Esco-style Frankenstein with the clear bag over him? Is that a giant candle?
Your posters are impressive!
With all the wonderful stuff you have shown us, I of course want to know about THIS:
1. This little bucket is a mystery to me. Was it sold empty or filled with Halloween candy/cookies?
2. Is the green item on top of it a lid that came with it or an unrelated toy like a Frisbee?
3. What is the image on the "lid"? (Looks like a devil face.)
4. What year was this produced?
I have a couple of these, but have no information about them.
Thanks.
i know the bucket is prob 60's the art is jack davis like. it has frankie, the phantom of the opera, drac, the wolfman, the gorgon and a a ghoul. metal handle. venture plastics. the green thing on top is a GHOULARDI frisbee!
Hey Ray! the frankie with the bag on him is the esco. the larger one to the right is a bank. they are all plaster casts except for the big frankie of course........the head next to the big frankie is also a bank......a real heavy bank!!!
oh yeah...the torture model kits are original MPC torture kits.,,,as soon as i found them(quite rare) and paid a hefty price for them ..i then saw them on the shelves of my local hobby shop.... but id rather the real mccoys anyway! so if anyone wants them check out your local hobby shop they are available!
Freddie has axed me to post this photo of himself. I had axed earlier in the thread for a pic of his tattoos. As Freddie himself noted - "MONSTERS DONT ONLY BELONG ON YOUR SHELVES THEY BELONG ON YOUR SKIN TOO!"
I'm digging that look Freddie as much as the toys themselves. Thanks for sharing!

I'm in total shock. What an amazing collection. ;D Speechless I should say?!
freddie poe- I am also dazzled and breathless over your collection. I have looked at it for the last few days- just to be sure I can take it all in without fainting! Everything you have collected is pure treasure!! I LOVE the magazine rack! I have often wondered how to display all my favorite Monster magazines in such a way that they can be seen and enjoyed! Perfect! I never would have thought of this!
All your posters are so beautifully arranged. I just am so delighted to see such a glorious collection :) Thanks for sharing it all! And now I shall go back & look some more.
tHE MAGAZINE RACK CONSISTS OF MY PRE CODE HORROR COMICS, SOME RARE PULPS, AND SOME ODD BALL BOOKS/MAGAZINES. THE FAMOUS MONSTER MAGS ARE DOUBLES AND READERS COPIES. I HAVE THE WHOLE RUN OF FAMOUS MONSTERS FROM #1 TO 180 SOMTHING STASHED AWAY. INCLUDES ALL THE YEAR BOOKS AND SPECIALS LIKE THE PAPERBACKS, THE GAME BOOK ETC...... THERE ARE TWO THINGS I AM PETRIFIED OF ON THIS PLANET. FIRE AND WATER. THE WATER DOESNT SCARE ME TOO MUCH BECAUSE I AM THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL!! IM PRETTY HIGH UP OVER HERE. BUT FIRE IS DIABLO!!!!
Sweet monster tats Freddie! I'm pretty sure the next tattoo I'm getting is gonna be a King Kong. But I have some space reserved for Frankenstein & The Creature too.

sorry for the sparse nutty mad collection. had ALL the nutty mad and weird-oh stuff in the last collection which i just dumped in the 90's now we are working on rebuiding it....just picked up a red/orange marx/hawk weirdo-oh figure yesterday at the boston toy show... got it for the fair price of $35.00. i always let my girlfriend do the purchasing..... she's better at it .......im sure the dealer would have made ME pay the full $45!!! i passed on a Frankie Flivv box and instructions for $50.00 and kicked my own azz all the way home! waaaah..waaahhh!!!!!!
Let me just say I hate Freddie Poe. No, I've never met him. But I hate anyone whose collection has the power to short circuit my laptop keyboard via drool.

GREAT COLLECTION Freddie Poe! WOW! More like a Museum! Awesome! Makes me sad though, because now I know why I can't find anything else good in MA, YOU'VE GOT IT ALL! BWAHAHAHHAAAAHAHAH! Someday I'd love to see it in person. As a newbie, you've inspired me, by showing me just how much there is to Monster Collecting. The possibilities are endless. Who knew, even a "Monster Magnet"! Damn, I remember having one of them as a kid! I guess I have to try and find one again! Thanks for sharing your amazing collection with us! Never stop diggin' and keep that shovel muddy!
It is awe inspiring, the big Mummy poster, the mpc target game, etc, etc
Freddie has a spectacular collection! If I'm ever in his neck of the woods I'm gonna beg admittance into The House Of Poe to bask in the monster grandeur. :)
as i have said in the past... Any UMA members would be welcome... i like to think i follow in Forry Ackerman's footsteps.....a few local members have been here...they all say the same thing...... i wanna live here....!! LOL
Well then you should rent rooms. A bed-and-breakfast business might be in order, or perhaps a cabin or two out back by the woods....
;)
Sorry! no over nights as all the rooms are FILLED! But Hep! i do have a cat!! Cats are welcome! Funny thing is when i took this cat in off the street i thought he would be a cat and knock all my crap off the shelves and scratch at my posters etc. but after almost ten years...he's never touched or damaged one single item. and there is SO much to knock over!! LOL

yes. sorry to say.... that is a towel (gives you something else to look for!)....the REST are movie posters......
I never would have guessed that anybody made a towel of that poster! I wonder if there were others?
bought it at the brimfield antique show in the early 1980....i think i paid $15...
Freddie, I picked up a Mad Love window card. That is, I am paying on it:) Nothing much paper-wise other than that.
Have been concentrating on toys lately. Picked up a Create and Draw Monsters Set, Hasbro Drac game, and Frank Fliver empty box. I am trying to buy back all the 60s toys I sold 8 years ago, in order to fund the paper obsession:)
When is the next Brimfield Show? Jamie
I'd like to see some pictures of that Create and Draw Monsters set in the Show off Your Weekly Finds thread.

There used to be someone on eBay that sold throw blankets printed with poster images. A couple of them were Universal monster poster. I'm pretty sure one of them was bride.
They looked like something that you would have printed at a kiosk in the mall. An they were way too expensive.
That was a long time ago. I think it was before XOne stuff started showing up.
Your place is to monsters what Cooperstown is to baseball. How much for a tour?

Thanks Wolfman.! that is a greatly apreciated compliment....and a very unique quote.... thank you....

Hi Freddie - I mostly just look at the Monster goodness on Uma but had to post , That is one fine collection and I know how much work goes into displaying a collection of that size. I have a pretty large collection myself and some other things you mentioned " ring a bell " boxing in my youth lol. I am a few years older than you and at one time worked near Springfield Mass. it is amazing how the love of this hobby lasts all these years.
Do you remember Jay Disbrow of Pre-Code Horror comics. I published a short series of comics with him in the early 1980's titled Lance Carrigan of The Galactic Legion some great Sci-Fi stuff, giant spiders and the like.. Keep it going ! Again, great collection
Steve
No Steve i don't recall Jay. But i'm glad you dropped in to take a look around the House Of Poe. I boxed plenty out in Holyoke, Mass. at the Holyoke Golden Gloves and fought lots of guys from the springfield area. Once a Monster lover always a Monster lover thats one thing for certain. Thanks
I went back in time, and looked at your collection all over again! I also checked to see what charp13 from the past had to say about it all. You have really filled our eyes with so much historical goodness, Sir! I can't get over how wonderful your poster arrangement is! Your home is a place of wonder and beauty, and I am so pleased that we all have had a chance to see it all. I look forward to seeing anything else you have to share with us! :) It makes those of us with smaller collections/monster rooms dream big and take away some awesome decorating ideas. Thanks so much!

Freddie,
The pleasure was all ours! Your collection was incredible and you are one hell of a tour guide! I'm humbled, that you're hoping that we'll be friends. I was hoping that you would be so kind to even mention me in your threads and now you're hoping to be friends? By all means! I'm honored that you would call me friend. Freddie, your modesty is inspiring! You and maybe you don't realize it, are one of the legends of the UMA and the monster collecting world. I have not seen very many collections (you're the first) but I'm sure it is the envy of all but a very few fellow members. The very idea that you would allow a total stranger into your home to view what is an incredibly extensive, and it goes without saying valuable collection, just shows the extent of your character. I'm amazed by your generosity! It should be me and it is me who is hoping that he has made a new friend and found a mentor to help him in this great pursuit! Many, many thanks! Here's to a very long and new treasure laden friendship! You Da Man Poe!

No Brother Hep Cat ..everything i have is in some form of encasement wether it be a plastic bag, plexi, glass, mylar sleeves, etc. none of my stuff is lying around bareazz! LOL. As soon as i can get Jayme to shoot a new batch of pix you will all see a gang of new stuff that i have been trading some of my posters for. many new acquisitions. Soon my Brothers soon.....
Steve. I learned from Uncle Forry Ackerman not to be afraid to let strangers come to my home to see my collection. If i was the only one who ever gets to see it then it would be useless. You will be an apt pupil i'm sure. I will bring you along to a few shows with me and teach you the ropes. But i get first dibs! LOL!!
Truly awe inspiring collection, Freddie. Can't wait to see the new stuff.

Citizen Kane,
Gone wth the Wind,
The Thin Man,
Sound of Music,
The Graduate,
Godfather, etc.

Hey Hep, Freddie (and anyone else who may know),
Did these games come with outter shrink wrap? I've seen several over the years with the inside tray of figures and dice still wrapped or with the remanats, but I don't know of anyone with or any photos of the game shrinkwrapped on the outside. That coupled with the wear you see on so many of them AND that I've seen tons with price stickers on the (Richard Olson's still have their price tags, for instance, and he got them in retail stores at the time) have always lead me to wonder. Thanks, and always great to see the pics and read the discussions. Best, Shannon
I don't remember the board games in the sixties being shrink wrapped.
:-\
I think the insides has a cello cover but not the whole game.... that i recall. Could be wrong though...

That's such a true statement. I got to see the Ackermansion in the late eighties and was amazed at all this great stuff laying out for all to see. I asked Forry if he wasn't afraid someone would steal any of it and he replied that if you can't trust monster fans who can you trust. Such a great man and inspiration.
Heck, I'm just happy seeing virtual collections of this stuff, can't imagine I'll ever see most of it in person.
Freddie, absolutely great collection makes me look at mine and I want to puke. what is the Them! head is it resin never seen one my favorite big bug movie.
that was an old Carnival Fun House prop that used to pinch and spit putrid ant puke on you when you walked by it. That's a sugar box that i customized to support the fragile ant head, you know how much ants dig sugar! BIG & small ants alike!! it is made up of foam, plastic, latex & wire that i can see.....I picked it a few years ago up in Rowley, Massachusetts for $15.00....

I love the Halloween costumes for kids that Collegeville, Ben Cooper and other companies produced last century! I like them all, even non-monster ones. I remember them hanging from the ceiling of the Kresge store in downtown London and to me they just capture everything about Halloween.

$25 this one is a little rough around the edges~

Freddie, I was having trouble with Imageshack and switched to Photobucket. As long you are satisfied with it that's great, but Photobucket worked better for me and it's still free whereas Imageshack recently started/will start charging for uploads. Just a heads-up.
Were those costumes in one haul? Either way I love em! I like flickr for photo hosting.
i only had the Cagney Phantom in my collection. I had that one for over twenty years. i added all the others in the past six months. picking some of them off on ebay and the rest came with a little help from my friends...... i am going to keep on with this costume quest. I dig 'em.

One of the greatest Sci-fi memories of my life was hanging out with Ray Bradbury in Hollywood at the Egyptian Theatre shortly before he passed away. I said "Ray wanna see the real Illustrated Man?" so i took of my shirt and showed him my monster/sci-fi tattoo's. Ray said " May God Bless you my son!" i thought to myself. 'Now i can go to my grave..having been blessed by one of the greatedt sci-fi writers of our time.' What a rush!!!!!!!!

Freddie, did you stop by and see Mr Borst's Poster Museum!!
Jamie! Yes i did. I think its the best collection around. Despite the fact that alot of it was Forry's. I know that Kirk has alot of great posters but Ron's is in a class of its own. Its The Ackermansion on steroids!!
Funny thing... Ray and I were wearing the same color shirt!! LOL
Fantastic!!
Ray Bradbury was / is one of my idols. Not only for his written work, but also for every interview he ever gave. I loved his thoughts on life in general. I also was a fan of all illustrated "comic" versions that were adapted from his works by EC back in the day, and others more recently.
Bradbury and Harryhousen are 2 people that I would have loved to have had the opportunity to meet and shake their hand / give them a hug / tell them how much I appreciated their work.
Freddie, you have to fill me in on Ron's collection in April at Chiller. Ron told me he has a lot of toys also in addition to posters.
Yeah but his version of monster toys is everything UNIVERSAL that came out in the 80's and 90's and he buys every monster item that comes out ... i did not see any vintage "Monster Kid" toys when i was there. I dont even think i seen an Aurora built up?

Can't say that I do. If they're plaster and you had to paint them, maybe they came from a crafts store?
the lot was just delivered! the heads are so cool and many of the 1960's card sets did survive the water but some were lost. Luckily the orange horror monsters made it (was only about 10 cards), the monster midgees, outer limits, jack davis set, civil war news, apes, spook stories, beatles among others survived...

Love the Civil War News cards. I have the complete set of 88 cards. They were nice & bloody. I'm glad yours survived among the others.

the surviving non sport card lot.... amazing seeing the Frankie Glow box they were stored in was water logged! I'll post 3 pix of the monster wall hanging plaster heads tomorrow.
New to the site just wanted to commend you on the awesome collection.

Welcome fiend! thanks for droping in! Freddie Poe
Hey Freddie. Saw this yesterday at an Antique Mall in Wichita Kansas for $40 and thought of you. Not sure what this is, but it sure is old. The mask is like a cotton material. They had two, but I only got pics of the cool costume before they asked me to stop taking pics. The the tag said the other one is a Carnival costume. Both had boxes.

Have you seen anything lie this before?
I have a Witch costume that has the same type of mask, but obviously different features.

Just stumbled across this thread thanks to Hepcat. Where is the link to the collection folder? Also, what happened, was there a flood or something?
What kind of link to what collection folder?
???
And the water damage that Freddie mentioned in this thread was only to a very few gum cards from his childhood that he'd left at his father's house. Most of the cards Freddie remembered and was hoping to find survived unscathed.
:)
Here is a very cool looking 7" X 17" cardboard picture of the Phantom in a wooden frame belonging to Freddie Poe:

He bought it at Spencer Gifts in 1972 or 1973. Others including one of the Mummy were available.

Definitely a commercial, or "dorm" type poster. It's possible there is publisher info being covered by the frame?

Yes, your guess is correct.

Those Luminators look cool! I think I have a sealed Dracula around here, and never had any idea what it might look like... any of those would be great in a Halloween display!
Love me some Luminators!!! His Mummy and Kong look great! Normally the pink fades away. I had to repaint my Mummy with transparent, fluorescent glass paint. I am looking for orange paint like that to touch-up the Frankenstein.
The Luminator kits are stunning. I have a few still sealed in their boxes. Now, I think I want to released the GLOW.

Incidentally, I should mention that the "poster" isn't made of paper. It's a rectangle of glass in a frame.

Here are a couple of pictures of the attic room in which Freddie now plans to unbox and display his models and other non-paper collectibles:

Evidently his knees will no longer allow him to use it on even a semi-regular basis.

I'm now anxiously waiting for Freddie to unpack and return his collection to full display!

I'm absolutely drooling over this collection. I've been trying to find a few favorites but it's like picking between water and air. I need and want it all!
Yes, Freddie has a fabulous collection! The Astro Spook costume above is among my personal favourites from the stash he's accumulated over the last few decades.

It proved ideal for displaying his collection of Amazing Stories magazines!
