Hi guys, I just wanted to share a real exciting project for me. During the past months I've been working on a commission for CBS of ships from the Star Trek TV Universe. They contacted me after seeing the Trek ship art I had done for Polar Lights. Apparently they became aware of the paintingts when the kits were re-released.
The art is for the style guide that Trek licensees receive. All ships are similar in attitude and lighting for brand consistency.
All the paintings are 20" x 30". They are painted in acrylics, airbrushed and traditional brush on archival watercolor board.
I'l post images over the next few days.

amazing! I can't wait to see more.
Awesome, Chris!! My hats off to anyone who can do machinery! Brrrr......
WOW-that is amazing! I agree with Illoman-machinery is so hard to illustrate!
Beautifully done, Chris - nice in its own right, and period-correct!
Happy holidays,
-Craig W.
Thanks guys! And I agree, doing ships like this can be painful. I'm not a big fan of painting with airbrush using lots of friskets - I feel degrees of separation from the art, and you're not really sure how all the colors blend until you remove the frisket paper to find out. I also had some bleed issues - arrgh!
Here's the next, Star Trek Voyager. As I mentioned, they wanted all the ships to have similar lighting and angle.

These are outstanding. I saw your Enterprise-C kit box art recently, in one of the few Wal-Marts in my area that still stocks model kits and model supplies. Congratulations on getting this project. (At least you don't have to paint the starfields!)
Here's the 1701-D...

Self critique, IMHO the weakest of the set. It's not a good angle for the ship (even though it had to be at the same angle of the others) and I got so caught up in the details that I missed the forest for the trees, so to speak.

Would they ask for a do-over if CBS doesn't like it? The main saucer seems off-center. That's a hard ship to render properly, especially with all those blasted windows!
The U.S.S. Defiant from Deep Space Nine.

They wanted a ship for consistency rather than the space station itself.
Loved the Defiant's cameo in "Star Trek: First Contact."
Can't wait to see your J.J. Abram's Enterprise and the Narada.
MORE!! MORE!!
All these paintings are fantastic, but the one of original series Enterprise is the best. Mainly because I have a soft place in my heart for that ship.

You should have a doctor check that out!
OK, here's the last one, the NX-01

I think this one turned out pretty well. Even with all of the detail I don't think I lost sight of the overall effect of a metallic ship with the blue under- and back-lighting.
Anyway, I hope you all like them and that the Trek fans felt I did the ships justice.
That's a beauty! Too bad you're not doing the J.J. Abrams Enterprise or the Enterprise-E.
Beautiful job on these!
Beautiful job on all the Trek starships. The original Enterprise is the best sci-fi vehicle ever created IMO.
Chris, these are worthy of becoming framed artworks. Truly fantastic.
Thanks guys. Thank you Terry, I appreciate it.
CreepysFan - I negotiated to get the art back, and plan on adding some background detail - nebula, star fields and the like to them, and frame them up.
They wanted them painted without backgrounds since the art is to be composited onto standard textures. Here's a sample of my painting of the refit on one of their standard backgrounds...

But to display them I think they need an environment.
I knew this guy when he was a nobody painting box art covers for Polar Lights(lol)now look at his work.Great work Chris!!
Those are way cool! Is there a Romulan Bird Of Prey among your works?

No, sorry. Never had one commissioned. Here's a Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser I did for Polar Lights, tho...

Dang, did that metal plate slip again?! I keep telling him, stay away from the fridge magnets!
