I cannot spell worth a darn...But hey. Some of you expressed interest in getting the pop heads(sp?) from Mexico. They are recasts and they came out last halloween. Now I live in Mexico fulltime so my proposition is this. I do not want any money for these. I would just send them all to one address that you guys nominate. It can be a fellow army member or something. Then he can send them out to each respective member in the U.S.
Since there is a REAL scarcity of Universal Monster products here I would just ask for each pop-in I send out that one sends to the one sending them out in the U.S. to send him one Universal Monster item and he can send them to me. I would gladly pay for shipping for it. It can be a coloring book, a little big head..ANYTHING. I am desperate for Universal Monster stuff.
Let me know. I have not seen any yet as no Halloween stuff is on the shelves yet but I will alert you when they do show up.
What a great idea count me in. I have some extra UNI-monster stuff and have zero pop-head monsters. And I love plastic. Thanks for the offer I'll stay tuned for details.
I would be willing to be involved with the exchange if needed.
I'm not really clear on what these pop-ups are.
Could someone post a picture of them?
Me too. I have extra universal monsters stuff. :)
I believe these are the culprits--
(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/JimBertges/Miscellaneous/100_6143.jpg)
They are repops of the MPC Pop Top figures.
I'll volunteer to be the central address since I'm in Southern California and fairly close to Mexico. Of course someone in Texas may be even closer to Bane, depending upon where in Mexico he is.
oh, I'd definitely be in on this.
Oh lordy!
Three of my favourite things are right there:
Mexican toys.
Plastic.
Monsters!
I'll find something to kick in, sign me up.
I am in Saltillo Mexico which is about 4 hours away from the Laredo Texas border.

So a Texan would be closer than a Californian. Still if no one from Texas is able to be the dispersal point, my offer still stands.
Was I right about the figures, are the ones in the photo what we're talking about?
I'm interested in getting a set of these.
I would definitely like to be included! What a great idea. I'd be happy to exchange Universal monster stuff!
-Tim
Me too. I would love tpo get something and exchange
Matt
Count me in as well! I would love a set of these.
I'm in!
AND I'm in Texas!
Seriously, would LOVE to get my claws on some of these!!
AND yes, I have some Universal Monster stuff to send off in trade.
THANK YOU Bane. You're so much nicer than that venom-addicted fellow.
-Prof. Griffin
Count me in! PLEASE!
OK, ya talked me into it. Actually, I've been craving that cool werewolf one.
I have always wanted a PopTop Monster, so count me IN too! Looking forward to the details as they are developed. Hope there will be Mexican PopTops this year!
So far nothing on the store front...Maybe in the first week of October. Am actually going to Laredo this Wednesday to look for Monster stuff. Hope to find a halloween store or something..You guys decide on who is most trustworthy around here. Then send me a private email.
As they say around here..Gracias!
Would love to throw one or two on the shelf. Hope I am not too late.
I'll get in on this. And if Griffin wants to do the sendouts, or Jim either would be fine.
Sure, I'd be in for these, too.. Not sure what I can send in return, but I'll figure something out.
Alright. Just picked up 17 two packs at the store. They were around $2 dollars a piece. Is that enough for you guys?
Bane I'm counting 18 or 19 people who want to participate so far. Would it be possibel for you to pick up a few more? I'm sure that however many you pick up they will be wanted. If you want to send the whole bunch to me in California, I'll take care of contacting everyone who wants a set and getting it shipped to them.
You'll have to provide your address so we can send you some Universal Monster goodies in return.
Hey Jim,
Where in California are you? I'm in L.A. I don't know if we've ever met. Maybe at Roebuck's house?
-Tim
I'd love to be popped as well! I hope I'm not too late. I have Unimonster goodness to trade too! Let me know so I can rearrange the shelves....
Jim is a very trustworthy soldier here in this army. Since he's willing to accept the job of dispersing these pop tops, I can't think of a better "go between" guy. Jim, your hired.
And thanks again Bane for sharing the love south of the border! Can't wait to get my grubby hands on a set!
Thank you, General for that vote of confidence.
If Bane is only able to acquire 17 sets of these gems and we have a greater number of members who want them, I propose dusting off the "Hat of Doom" and doing a random name drawing of those who have already submitted their names. If this arrangement is OK with everyone, do nothing. If you DON"T agree, please chime in with a better alternative.
Bane, my friend, the ball is in your court. I PMed you my address and I'm patiently awaiting a package from Mexico.
Tim, you also have a PM.
Hello! A couple questions;
Do we send a Universal monster item for EACH PopTop monster, or each SET of two monsters?
Is there any way to get one of EACH variety of monster, and if so....how many Universal monsters do we need to send?
Just wonderin...
I might as well let the cat out of the bag.
Yes I can probably get more. I have to go searching. The cat being that I need Universal Monster items because that´s right....I am opening up my own Universal Monsters cafe! Everything is ready. Liquor license? Check. Lifesized monsters built? Check. It is all painted up and it should just take around 1 more month to open up. Anyone that visits and brings a Universal Monsters item gets a free dinner.
I do not know how to post pics to the net or else I would show you guys some pics. I need UM stuff to fill a lovely glass/mirror shelf with. I would love little big heads, glasses, coloring books etc. I already have the dollar store set that was released a few years ago so do not bother with those.
Thanks guys!

For UMA members who want to mail items, what is your address?
Bane and I are working out the logistics of shipping everything. It may work out that all the trade items will come to me and I'll pack them all together to ship to him. He'll send me the figures and I'll take care of getting them out to everyone who has participated. He is out searching for more sets. We'll let everyone know what we have figured out....as soon as we figure it out.
Chris there will be no problem to send a set to England if you want to participate, I'll take care of that.
I'm not in need of these items, but would be happy to donate a few Uni items for the Cafe.

It's no problem for me. I have a very good friend who lives in Crook, County Durham and I send packages to England occasionally.

Cheers Jim,
I will get onto finding some nice swapsy items. :)
Bane, you mentioned Little Big Heads as an example, but are there any specific Universal Monsters items that you're searching for? Something in particular that you desperately want and just can't find down there?
Thanks so much Skylar, but there is nothing down here. Old Santo vs. Frankenstein movies and very cheap Halloween Frankenstein pails. I am originally from Atlanta and went on a buying binge just before I moved here. Bought some things on the net from CultTvMan and Mjvar. Let`s see though...
Polar Lights Creature Kit, Frankenstein kit. I am only missing those. I have the boxed 3 figure set of the Hasbro dolls so any other ones I would love. Any thing else is almost fair game. I have all the Marx glow figures from MJVar.
As for pics go, I hope to have a website open soon.
Thanks again guys!
OK, Monster Pals, we have figured out at least a little something about this. Bane has located a few more sets of these figures, but we will have to cut off participation at this point. So if you're listed in this thread as wanting to participate, you're in. For the sake of convenience Bane has asked that all the trade items be sent to me and I will forward them all to him in one or two shipments. He is getting an address in Laredo TX that he can use which will save all of us (except you, Chris) international shipping. He said he'd have that address secured in a couple of weeks. So, now is the time for you to gather up your trade items and put them into the mail to my address (listed below) so I can get them together for shipment to Bane. I will acknowledge receipt of the items by PM when they arrive. I don't plan on opening the packages, I'll just pop them in a box as they are unless it makes the package too bulky. Anyway please include your UMA ID on the outside of your package so I can let you know it has arrived. Send your trade items to---
Jim Bertges
1332 Currant Ave.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions.
Bane mentioned wanting some little big heads; I'll send some of those for my part.
Many thanks Jim,
I will round up my offerings and post tomorrow!
Hey Jim, just a quick note to let you know my trade package is on its way. You will notice my UMA name just above the return address on the box. Thank you Bane and Jim for making this happen!
Sending my package this weekend. Thanks!
Trade items are rolling in, slow but steady. I know Bane was working on getting an address he could use in Laredo and should let us know soon how that's going. Keep sending your trades and we will keep you informed as soon as there is information to be had.
Jim. I've been very busy and very distracted as of late. I'm going to box up a box 'o monster toys today and send them on their way. Sorry for the delay!
I sent mine a few days ago, they should be there any time.
Hi Jim - I also am among the swamped and harried but I have the goods and I'll get a box mailed to you on Monday so stand by thanks!
Paul Koloc
No huge rush, we're still waiting on that Laredo address. I just want to keep this thread alive so those who want to participate remember they wanted to participate.
I got a package of trade items from Amy Williams today and normally I'd notify her via PM that the box has arrived. However, since I don't know Amy's UMA moniker, I can't do that. So, Amy, your package is in Southern California.

Hey!
I have died yet. Still here. Got all the little buggers packed up in a nice Nutrioli box so be on the lookout for it Jim. If nothing happens in way of news next week I will drive to Laredo myself and ship it to you.
Cool! Looking forward to them. Hope the Monster Cafe is still progressing.
Hey All!
Package is on its way! A medium box with Nutrioli on the side. Be on the lookout for it Jim!
Monster Cafe is going ok. The liquor company is SLOW on getting back to us.
I have a 24 hour watch on my mailbox. I'll send out the alert when it arrives!
I did send a small package the other day. Sorry for the delay, but you should have it soon.
Hey I know I'm late to this whole thing but if there are any extras after you're all finished I'd be interested.
Also, Bane I live in Atlanta and awhile back a friend of mine at a used book/movie store here told me about some guy coming in and buying up a bunch of monster stuff to take to Mexico. Guess that was you!
Good luck on the Cafe!!
Hey Phantom Creep!
If it was Book Nook. That WAS me! The owner of the store also turned me onto a fellow collector that lives in Atlanta going by the name of Shane. He has a great collection. One of the best I have seen with my own two eyes in person.
It seems I might have to buy my own liquor license. Corona doesnt give you the financial support they did in times past. It is better to be free and not to be tied to one company anyway.
Yes it was Book Nook and I'm good friends with Shane. It was my good friend David that you spoke with at Book Nook and I wish he had put you in touch with me as well, I think you would have enjoyed my collection and I could have loaded you up with some stuff also ;), but he wasn't sure about giving out my number. I would have enjoyed meeting you. If you ever get back up to Atlanta, let me know.
Once again, good luck on the cafe, keep us posted here on it's progress!!
Take care,
Shawn
Well Shawn! Nice to meet ya.
I lived in Atlanta all my life and thought I was the only Monster collector...HAHA...Is Oxford comics still going strong there? I think that was one of the last comic shops there when I left. I know of one at Little 5 points and of course book nook but the comic shops died a vile death in the ATL. I have been in Mexico 2 years now and SORELY miss Atlanta. There are no comic shops I am aware of in Laredo Texas.
I will visit one day. It is just I have a Mexican wife now and it is heck getting a visa to visit.

They will start going out to those whose trade items have arrived on Saturday. I'd do it sooner, but my car is in the shop and I'm stuck at home. I'll notify you when your package ships.
Each package contains 2 figures (they're all either orange or purple), 2 cardboard masks, a set of plastic fangs and some (not many) random packs have little skeletons in them.
Thanks much, Jim.
Ooooh! I can't wait! ;D ;D ;D
Jim, how is the detail on these re-pops?
Craig nice avatar - reminds me of a Vertigo Sandman? Or Tarzan?
Thanks, Paul.

One of the bags had a split on the side, so I carefully removed these fellas for a quick close up. I hope this answers the question sufficiently.
Okay, now I'm screwed - they look so dang good, is it still too late to trade for a complete set?
-Craig
Unfortunately there are no complete sets for anyone at least at this point in time. There are 23 bags of 2 figures each and 21 people on the list trading for them. There may be more left over if people on the list don't send in their trades, but that remains to be seen.
This was asked before, but I don't think it was clarified. Are we trading one item per figure, thus two items for a bag containing two figures?
You're right, Ray, I don't think it was made clear at all and that's my fault. It's set up as a trade of Uni Monster items you have that are extras in exchange for one bag of two figures. Since there are only 23 bags of figures and 21 participants it's difficult to send more than one bag to anyone.
If anyone feels they've traded too much in the deal, please let me know privately and I'll return any items you want back with your figures. I should have been more clear earlier on, but if Bane can come up with more figures, the demand is high. Sorry for any confusion.
Jim,
I can't tell from the group shot - are they all the same 2 sculpts?
Just curious.
Thanks
Nope, there is a total of 8 different figures, each bag has two different figures.

Thanks a lot for doing this, Jim. I appreciate it.
Yes Jim thanks a googelplex. What goes around comes around amigo!
It's always a pleasure to do something for my friends, even theones I haven't met yet. And let's not forget Matthew (Bane) who scoured Mexico to provied these little gems.
So true, Jim. Thanks so much, Matthew! This was a real treat! :)
Yeah, Matthew you are a superstar for getting these man. Hope all is going well in Mexico!
Gary Knox, your box of trade items arrived yesterday and your monsters ship today. Sorry to notify you this way, but I don't know your UMA ID.

Wanted to thank Jim and Matthew for this cool endeavor. It was a lot of fun and the figures are pretty cool. Thanks guys!
Thank you Jim, for all your hard work facilitating this Pop-Top trade. You are not only doing well by your fellow monster mavens, you are also assuring continued positive trade relations between the U.S. and Mexico. Bane, if you can grab a few more bags of figures and get them to me, I'll take care of the rest. I don't think there's an actual count, just get what you can and once I have them I'll coordinate getting you some more trades for them.
Once again, these figures come two to a bag, one bag per trade. Only trade what you have extras of to help Matthew (Bane) decorate his monster themed cafe in Mexico. This year's figures only come in Purple and Orange.
Is there a list of what Bane already has? I was going to send some stuff but had wanted to get a full set. It seems as tho taht's not likely but I would still send some stuff but I don't want to send duplicates.
This is all assuming I'm still even on the list to trade.

Welp....They are all gone here in Good ole Mexico. Since I have been living here two years almost every store has had them so do not worry. We will all do this again next year.
By the way Jim! Did you put at the bottom of the box Attn: Matthew Green? I haven`t received the box yet but hoping I will next week.
Gracias to all in advance!
Come and visit me at the Monster Cafe! We just bought our liquor license so we can sell everything! Got the refridgerators from Corona..Just waiting on more glasses from them but it looks like it could be two weeks and we will open. 25 tall walls with the paintings of the original Monster posters, some lifesized monsters built up and mounted on the wall etc. Hope you guys can visit! Anyone brings some universal monster merchandise for the exhibition gets a free meal and beer!
Got my Witch and Executioner today. Cool. 8) Thanks guys for making this happen.

BTW. These are pretty cool but since they are massed produced toys the heads on both of mine didn't sit right giving them a pencil neck look. Hole not near deep enough. So a little tip for anyone else finding this. Take a cordless drill and a 11/64 bit and slowly drill till you get the right depth and the head will sit flush with the shoulders. The top"pops" right on.Perfect.

Yes the box has Attn: Matthew Green on the address label. I'm currently assembling a second box of trade items which will go out when it's full.

I'm working up an appetite for the Monster Cafe & Bar. The bar part is equally as exciting. I'd like to get hammered at that bar. Then again, I'd like to get hammered at any bar .. but I digress.
What may I ask is this Wolf Man figure seen in the above photo? Is it some kind of weird Mexi-monster bootleg?
It doesn´t look like Lon chaney´s version? That Wolfman is a lifesized version stuck to the wall...

Yes Bane, it does look like Chaney's version, but I was trying to figure out if this is a manufactured retail product, or a home made sculpture of some sort?

Well Terry, I think if any UMA'ers went there, we'd be Universal-ly Hammer-ed.
(now ducking)
Looks like a VERY cool place!
