Hello friends, im from Central America and this October i will travel to The United States and wanna have the best time in this halloween season, wich Place of United States is the best for this seasons???
i wanna go to the best haunted houses, best costumes stores, best halloween parties, best decorated neightborhoods, etc ... cause in my country El Salvador is boring time.... which place could you recomended me?
(sorry for my english not good)
Los Angeles? Universal Studios Hollywood?
New York?
Florida
I am gonna go with Florida because we have plenty of theme parks and events pertaining to Halloween. Halloween horror nights, howl-o-scream, etc. There is also spooky empires convention going on right around Halloween this year. Tons of stuff. California might also be another good state.
NOT North Carolina, that's for sure!
what about Universal Studios Hollywood? can i found history or memorabilia of the Universal Monsters? which Universal Studios is best? Los Angeles or Florida? i wanna go and see something like a museum of monsters? already exist one?
CALIFORNIA
It's difficult to say which state would be best. As it was said below, Florida does have theme parks which are fun normally, also do extra stuff around Halloween, especially Disney and Universal.
There are horror-themed conventions around the time of Halloween. In northern New Jersey (not too far from New York City), there is the Chiller Theatre Convention http://www.chillertheatre.com/main.htm (http://www.chillertheatre.com/main.htm) although they had not posted their guest list yet. They usually have a lot of major guests though.
In California, there is also the Universal Studios park and Disney as well. There is also the whole Hollywood scene and there is the Son of Monsterpalooza convention near Halloween weekend also. http://www.monsterpalooza.com/sonofmonsterpalooza/index.html (http://www.monsterpalooza.com/sonofmonsterpalooza/index.html) They have already started to list their guests, but I'n sure they will add more. http://www.monsterpalooza.com/sonofmonsterpalooza/guests/index.html (http://www.monsterpalooza.com/sonofmonsterpalooza/guests/index.html)
We'll be interested to hear what you decide to do.
Rob

Hey, man... no need to apologize for your English. You know a 2nd language at that is to be respected. I have seen some of your costumes that you've posted and they're really cool. We're lucky to have you as a member. You are in the right place.
Best of luck with your trip!

You covered alot of what I was going to say , in regards of stuff to do here during halloween ;)
Universal Studios has the Horror Nights, which is super scary. http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com (http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com)
I always go to the Danzig show each halloween , which is at the Universal Amphitheatre, on the backside of Universal, and
you can see the monsters lurking in the bushes, and hear ppl screaming like the entire time youre in line waiting to go in the show. Eekk!!!!
Disneyland is awesome at that time of the year, ;D
as the entire French Quarter is turned into Nightmare before Christmas - Overloadddd.. its freaking amazing . . Even the haunted house is kicked up a few notches,
and its really something to behold !!!!
and right across the street from Disneyland at the Grove, is "Octoberflame" , for 3 nights in a row..
which is like a 3 day concert, featuring Tiger Army and other rockabilly/psychobilly bands ( 45 grave, Blitzkid, Zombeast, Calabrese, and a gazillion others. varies year to year,
and night to night, ,) http://www.citynationalgroveofanaheim.com/index.asp (http://www.citynationalgroveofanaheim.com/index.asp)
at Hollywood Forever Cemetary, they have horror movies there every night during October. you just bring a blanket and 10 bux ( i think? ) and its RADDDDD. I try to go as many nights as I possibly can. http://cinespia.org/home. (http://cinespia.org/home.)
and as Rob mentioned,
Son of Monsterpalooza will be going on as well.
.
Knotts berry Farm, becomes Knotss Scary Farm, and thats really fun.... monsters , ghouls and all kinds of creepy stuff goin on there
http://ultimatehaunt.com (http://ultimatehaunt.com) .. but be prepared to be chased throughout the park by monsters carrying chainsaws and whatnot . . ::)
the other thing I love to do is go to Eric Pigors home/ haunted house . .

Back in the day , ( dont even know if he is still doing it anymore ? ),
but Phil Anselmo had his amazing " house of shock" , in the backwoods of New Orleans area. .
I went a few times.. so that is usually going on the same week as the Voodoo Music Fest, but the bands there, always vary so much.
usually not stuff I like , but you never know. .
New Orleans, LA .. they even have a parade.

It is difficult to say what is the 'best' but there are many things going on in every state of the union. I hope that you have a fun time no matter where you end up.

Couldn't go wrong there. If in Southern California, you also might want to check out "Knott's Scarry Farm", which is Knott's berry Farms annual haunt.
Wisconsin (My home state) Is commonly known as the most haunted state in the US. You could go to theme parks..or you could get the REAL experience!
I've tresspassed on many haunted properties and been to haunted cemetary's. I've had several creepy encounters!
State of drunkenness.
Green Bay Fear Wisconsin's Scariest Haunted House is one nice nice place!!!

I've never been myself, but have always wanted to see what Salem, Mass is like during Halloween. That's where I would go if given a choice.
With all the theme parks, I would imagine CA or FL, but PA would probably be a good choice too.

You could actually do that, and then if you were so inclined, swing over to Sleepy Hollow. They're about 215 miles apart.

That's a great one as well. I watched an episode of City Confidential and it was set in Salem, Mass, and it showed how they celebrate Halloween and they showed all sorts of awesome stuff they did, and it was great

Where I am currently staying in Wisconsin for the moment, that about sums it up. ;D

although i have never been I hear Salem Mass is a great place to visit this time of year and there's lot's of festivals and stuff. look at some youtube videos on it.
I gotta say lately NJ has been doing a pretty good job. Local is mediocre at best but when you get out west to Sussex Co and where all the farms are--it's pretty damn cool. Just seeing a billboard every 1/4 mile of a giant Jack O Lantern over corn stalks is Autmn bliss.
There is a place called Washington Tractor out in the sticks in NJ that the company I work for sells batteries to for tractors. They have a sticker of that one of their customers made that I have been dying to get for the back of my Jeep window...orange rectangle that just say's "Pumpkin Hunter" and has an awesome Jack O Lantern on it....been trying to get a sticker out of these people for a year!

one thing Wisconsin has to offer that So.Cal doesnt and can't ,
is the " real" pumpkin farms, and/or driving through the country , and seeing all the
gorgeous trees with different color leaves falling. .
driving through cornfields , with just a sea of cornstalks... like so far out , you cant see where they end.
that whole " Fall" ambiance. .
when sundown comes, you can see HUGE bonfires that people have going
just like on their land, & its just so picturesque and beautiful.
Even the smell is unique and just screams " Halloween is coming !!! "
I do miss that . Its something that you cant duplicate in a place like l.a.
When I was there in Fall 2010, I literally took my girls to the various farms ( theres a gazillion there ),
and we would buy pumpkins like every day . Im not joking when I say I carved about 50+ pumpkins within a month.
Every night , I'd be making pumpkin bars, or pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie. .
I had pumpkin canned, pumpkin frozen, to use for baking later in the year. .
It was just amazing .
Here in l.a, at halloween,
they use main corners that are empty and ugly, and kinda " set up " a fake " pumpkin farm" , usually accompanied with a petting zoo,
so all the so. cal Yuppies can go pretend that theyre at a pumpkin farm like the one I described ' above'. . ? lol
Having grown up here, that always seemed normal, until I experienced the REAL thing. . . like..
[where a man driving a tractor, has to drive you out to the field where theres 13million pumpkins still attached to the ground, growing. ( boggled my mind the 1st time I saw that )
and you walk around for awhile, in dirt and possibly pumpkin guts where a pumpkin was rotting, or maybe an animal got at it ?
anyways, you spend an hour or more, just walking around out there, looking for the perfect one, and then the man has to come cut it off the stem.
its a whole day long affair. ]
I actually hate the so called pumpkin farms here now.
I depsise them.
Its a waste of time and they overcharge big time. .
I guess they have to cover the outrageous rent on the empty lot where they set up their " circus" .
which is really what it is . couldnt be more fake if they tried. theres just NO comparing that to the sort of experiences youd have in Wisconsin
(or any midwest states Im guessing.)
so. now that I wrote a whole book. [or essay rather ].
on "Why the midwest is awesome in the Fall". . ::)

Your right about the leaves changing and the pumpkin farms being awesome. I do miss that. They do have them all over the east coast as well though. It sucks that Florida or parts of Cali just don't have those options come fall time.

Don't forget the Corn Mazes! Perhaps I'm biased because I live here, but I can't think of a better state than Wisconsin to be in during the fall.
im very excited for the event son of monsterpalooza >:D i really wish go to this event, what you can recomended paid 3 days or just one?
Keep in mind that both Universal Studios and Disney do their Halloween clebrations all month long.
So, If I could plan a dream Halloween event I would do the following:
1) Universal Studios California.
2) Universal Studios Florida.
3) Sleepy Hollow NY
4) Salem Massachusetts
5) Church of St John The Divine NY (a Halloween MUST)
6) Village Halloween Parade, NY (a Halloween MUST)

St John the divine the Procession of the Ghouls is very pagan traditions but looking interesting, has i seen NY too is a good Destination, what about Salem Massachusetts, any info of the events of this city?
Yeah, hey, I am here in Los Angeles, and fake pumpkin farms are all that can be found in the city. When I was a little kid, though, in the early 70's, my folks drove us way outside of town and there was a real, for reals pumpkin field! For a city kid, that was a real trip! We picked a couple of nice ones that morning.

I can only speak for Virginia.
We have Monster Fest - a one day Monster convention and celebration culminating with an all night movie marathon of monster films
Bush Gardens Howl - O - Scream - this is great fun with numerous haunted houses and great monster themed shows
Hunt Club Farm - this has a haunted hayride, a spooky corn field walk through called the Field of Screams and another haunted walk through that has a traditional monster theme. They also have a Halloween carnival with a large pumpkin patch.
There is a ghost walk in the city of Portsmouth with a Civil War theme.
There are many Halloween stores that open for the season. I counted 14 last time all within driving distance.
By the way, these are all in the Virginia Beach and Tidewater area except for Bush Gardens in Williamsburg but that is only about a 45 minute drive. The city of Richmond Virginia has their own bunch of Halloween activities and ghost walks. Richmond is about an hour and a half drive from Virginia Beach.
We are very fortunate to have so many Halloween activities all within a short drive of each other. There are a number of other haunted hayrides and attractions too numerous to name in the same area. Ghent, an area in the city of Norfolk has a Halloween festival in the streets all costumed.
It is in fact difficult to hit every activity.

every state in USA have his great events... i wish could travel every year since this 2012
I know the feeling and agree. We celebrate Halloween starting mid September and run all the way through October 31st. In future years though when I return again from overseas I plan to travel to some other states for "their" Halloween functions to try out some new events. Good luck to you and I hope where ever you end up traveling to is a blast for you.
