ENJOY, ALL!
Wow, that's a great lineup! Thanks!
This is a real summer treat! And like someone here said before- even though we all own most of these movies, it's exciting to think that we are watching them together!!! Thanks TCM! :)
I'm stoked for these! I've got my grandson tonight, we're ordering pizza, making popcorn and watching monster movies in REAL time! ( no dvr-ing) Just like the '70's except no commercials. Now all they need to add is a horror host and it would be perfect!
Double features? Sounds like Marathons! Great lineup by the way.
Wow! I haven't seen most of these films in years, and only own a few of them. Looks like I'm drinking lots of coffee tonight because DINOSAURUS! doesn't come on till 2:45 AM where I'm at! I haven't seen it or THE VALLEY OF GWANGI in 10 years! Seriously need to talk to THE WIFE about a DVR, ;).
Thanks for the heads-up, MFS!
Holy cats, Adam, that line-up looks awesome! Thanks for letting us all know. I just hope my poor DVR can handle it all!!
Awesome.......thanks for the heads-up! Cool flicks! :D
Thanks for posting the list. I just a minute ago noticed that TCM (bless 'em!) was having a Kaiju night. Wow, that's a string of Thursdays! Magnetic Monster is a fave (I've got it on laser). I've got most of these, but it will be interesting to see the comments by Robert Osborne, etc...

Kaiju night...is anyone else thinking a new national holiday?
I'm watching "Godzilla" right now! This is fantastic. I own most of those movies, but not all of them. I haven't seen "The Cosmic Monsters", "The Queen of Outer Space," "The Magnetic Monster", "The Cyclops" or, strangely, "The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues" and "Creature from the Haunted Sea".
Thanks for the heads up on this. :) Much appreciated. I've got Rodan on right now in the background while I do other stuff. Thanks again!

I was sharing Rodan with you.
I was listening to the dubbed voice actors and thinking what poor choices some of the voices were. They sounded too low to be coming from the small framed actors who were speaking - why didn't they hire Asian actors to do the dubbing? And one of the voices seemed really
familiar.
After the film ended, Robert Osborne explained that one of the dubbers was the pre Star Trek George Takei. He was home for summer school break and saw an ad in the paper for voice actors for the film.
Fun to know.
Well, I've got MONSTER ZERO on right now, while I'm messin' around on the computer & drinking some iced hazelnut java. Watched RODAN & some of GHIDORAH, earlier, but getting fired up for DINOSAURUS! Starts in about 50 minutes - it's nearly 2 AM - looks like I'm snoozin' in my chair tonight! I'm lovin' this!
Man, I NEED TCM.

That would be
Eastern Standard Time. Those are also followed by a featurette on the making of Logan's Run.
Saturday at 1:30 PM (EST) they are also showing King Kong.
Sunday at 1:45 PM (EST) it will be Arsenic and Old Lace
When's a guy to sleep?
I hafta break down and subscribe to their monthly schedule -12 issues for $12.95. All movies listed with directors' names and plot summaries.
MFS, I should have mentioned it being Eastern Time. Thanks for clarifying that - hate to find out someone waited up that late when they could'ave seen it 3 hours earlier!

TCM's on-screen time is always listed in Eastern Time. Living on the West Coast, I have missed a couple movies I really wanted to see by forgetting to adjust for Pacific Time. That's why I made the change at the beginning of the thread - to give us Californian's an easier schedule to follow.
You can select your time zone on their site.

You can get all of that on their website for free. I usually save the monthly schedule (as an HTML file) on my PC for quick reference. You can also get the schedule one and two months ahead.
I watched "Tarzan and the Amazons" on TCM this morning. I'm glad you guys brought this up because TCM is so far up the cable dial for me (it's channel 608) that I didn't even know I had it until this Drive-In shindig!
Hey RRW, I watched TARZAN today also! They've been showing them every Saturday - channel 608 here, too!
Man, I grew up watching Tarzan with Weismuller or Ely every Saturday morning. Great stuff!!

June 9

6:45 PM - The Cosmic Monsters
8:15 PM - Tarantula

I think I'll order a pizza. The Pizza Hut chain in our area is having a "any pizza, any toppings for $10" sale.
They let you start with a large specialty pizza and add as many toppings as you want.
I always get the large Meat Lover's pizza and add mushrooms, onions and black olives. It's so thick they have to cook it longer.
Mmmm.
(Not affiliated with Pizza Hut or any of its subsidiaries.)
Now, that sounds like a plan!
That sounds like an excellent plan, Adam!
I've got the DVR set to record two flicks I've never seen, Cosmic Monsters and Black Scorpion. I'm lovin' this! ;D
edit: Looks like UP and I posted at the same time -great minds think alike! Hey, let's all go over to Adam's, he's gonna have pizza! I'll bring some coke!
Warning: If you have them make it like I do, be sure to tell them to add extra cooking time, or it will come out gooey in the middle.

Darn that Pizza Hut! Well I'm sure between the pizza and the movies, you'll have a great time, Adam. I just got home myself and will be heading off to the TV...
Note to self, never watch the Cosmic Monsters again. Side note, watching Forest Tucker flirt was way more creepy than the "giant" bugs.
It's THURSDAY!!!
Tonight's line-up (PST, adjust for your time zone):
June 16
5:00 PM - Attack of the 50 Foot Woman
6:30 PM - Village of the Giants
8:00 PM - Queen of Outer Space
9:30 PM - Mars Needs Women
11:00 PM - Cyclops
12:30 AM - Manster
1:45 AM - The Killer Shrews
Even if you aren't home tonight, leave the TV on. That will juice TCM's ratings for these airings and encourage them to show more of the schlocky movies we love.* It might even scare away any potential burglars in your absence.
* What would be your dream line-up for a July schedule???
Thanks for the reminder!
Just watched ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN for the first time in a looooong time. Although the flick is a lot of fun for its cheesiness, it's one of those films whose poster is a lot better than it's story.

You need therapy.
Hahahahaha!! I do.......but this movie so far has been 50 percent dancing/sexy party and 50 percent sci-fi movie! I am in heaven!!
I'm going to record Cyclops and Manster, neither of which I've seen. All the rest, I've seen before and feel no need to see again! Heck, when I was a kid KTLA showed Village of the Giants at least twice a year. That was two times too many.
Moonshadow, I've never seen Cyclops either, so I also need to get over to my dvr. I have no idea how Village of the Giants slipped past me all these years! But now that it's over, I can check it off my list. And I will be processing it for the next few weeks.....because I'm not sure how I feel about it. But the music was good! :)

I didn't mind all the female wiggling around at first, but even that got tiresome after a while.
I perked up some at the end when I realized the production had left the Cloumbia backlot and staged their big finale at the "Hainsville Theatre" and between the Courthouse columns in Universal's Courthouse Square.
I always love seeing the Square in old movies.
Right you are, MFS...As hot as the girls were. i thought that awful dance sequence featuring the giants would NEVER end! Fun to see this again, but i don't need to do so again for a GOOD long time! Looking forward to Mars Needs Women [never seen it] and The Cyclops later. Will record those for sure!
OOPS! Zsa Zsa just got unmasked in Queen of Outer Space...Talk about Pizza Face!
Half-a**** watching Queen Of Outer Space and just realised I saw it at the Drive-In when I was a little kid... and I seem to remember that it scared me!

Psssst... The queen was played by Laurie Mitchell. Zsa Zsa was the hot one with the white hair who sounded just like Arianna Huffington. :)
I failed to make it all the way through "Village of the Giants" last night, even though the cast they gathered was amazing. I love how we know those teens are up to no good; those hooligans just want to dance all the time!
It's like an old person's vision of what "hooligans" do and look like. I love the car crash/ dance sequence. Those delinquents just get out of the car, turn on the radio and start getting groovy. Then it starts raining and turns into a full on Woodstock, mud wrestling orgy. It's like an evil "Footloose".
RRW- I will read every movie review that you ever write- from this point forward!! Hahahahaha!!! Darn kids and their Rock and Roll! I watched the whole thing and I started dancing a couple times!! :) "orgy"............yeah I thought I was imagining things, but sheesh! There were wet clothes and cleavage everywhere! But it all worked out in the end. I know what I'm gonna do if I ever crash my car! PARTY!

My bad, Facto...that's what i get for watching peripherally while on the computer! I stayed up until 3:30 last night to record both Mars Needs Women, [never saw this one before...turned out to be SO BAD i thought it would kill me!] & The Cyclops. So glad i now have a copy of the latter ,as i have such fond memories of watching this one back in the day on Chiller Theater here in NY with Zacherley hosting.
Things I learned last night on TCM...
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.
Anyone from the 1950's turned into a giant, just turns into a transparent person.
1950's alien spaceships sound just like a 1950's atom bomb counting down.
Giant aliens need to shave their knuckles.
If you're a brunette who gets turned into a giant, you become a blond.
If Nancy Archer had just dumped her looser husband, she could have hooked up with Glen Manning and they would have lived happily ever after.
If you were a man in the 1950's you drank, smoked and tried to pick up loose women. Wait a second, I did that last Friday night.
Village of the Giants
Quentin Tarantino is a fan of the movie.
Unless your movie is set in West Hollywood, your hero should never wear shorts and a shirt that shows his midriff (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Ron Howard has just gotta hate that this movie can still be seen by anyone.
If you say "Ouch" in slow motion... it's still silly.
We need a giant boob ride at Magic Mountain.
Queen of Outer Space
Anyone can borrow the costumes from Forbidden Planet.
Some Outer Space girls ARE easy.
Zsa Zsa Gabor actually was kinda hot.
Gene Rodenberry clearly watched QoOS way too many times.
Arianna Huffington is just doing a Zsa Zsa impression.
Mars Needs Women
Movies with Tommy Kirk put me to sleep.
Yvonne Craig really was hot.
Your male alien hero should NOT be dressed in a skin tight leather outfit. Are we seeing a trend here with Tommy Kirk?
Cyclops
If your fiance is in a plane crash and disappears for three years, just collect the life insurance.
If you're the hero and you put out the monster's one good eye with a flaming spear, you're kind of just an a-hole.
Lon Chaney Jr. seems happiest when he's eating and drinking.
Giants like to collect toy planes.
Manster
Two heads aren't always better than one.
Never except a drink from a Mad Scientist unless he drinks first.
Living near a live volcano helps cut down on your gas bill.
Shrews
Okay, if you see a really good print it's a little better... A little.
The phrase "Bad doggy" doesn't work on Shrews.
If you're the black guy left on the boat, you're toast.
John, I'm gonna print that out and hang it on my fridge!

5:00 PM - It Came From Beneath the Sea
6:30 PM - The Monster That Challenged the World
8:00 PM - The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms
9:30 PM - The Giant Behemoth
11:00 PM - The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues
12:30 PM - Creature From the Haunted Sea
Sounds like a Seafood Night - (Fish & Chips, maybe?)
Seen most of these recently, but definitely up for THE GIANT BEHEMOTH. Don't think I've seen this since I was 9 or 10! I'll be watching it at 12:30 AM (EST).
Yay for Thursday! I don't think I've seen The Monster that Challenged the World before. Got the DVR set.
"The Monster That Challenged the World" is awesome! Don't miss it! The monster is a full size, mechanical beastie that could wrestle with actors on the set. You just don't see that anymore.
An excellent night of Scifi classics. The first 3 I have on DVD. But, I've never seen The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues or Creature From the Haunted Sea. Looking forward to catching them for the first time. :)
I have never seen The Giant Behemoth! I am enjoying tonight's theme!! :) I had my autotune set on my tv for Jaws tonight at 10:00 on Encore, but I've changed my plans! I heart TCM!

I watched TCM last night, and 10 or 15 minutes into The Giant Behemoth storms killed our power. I don't know which was louder then, me or the lightning.

Wouldn't surprise me if the did at least one of those movies.
I thought the "Phantom From 10,000 Leagues" was a hoot.
It was made so cheaply that the Oceanographic Society boats were all rowboats - without outboard motors. There were only 2 sets to speak of: The doctor's livingroom/bedroom and the doctor's office/lab. Most of the rest of the movie took place outdoors. And most of that on the same small area of beach.
The doctor's livingroom was built so cheaply that the outside door opened out (instead of in) and had no latching hardware. When it was closed, it could be heard to slap shut and even bounced a few times.
At the first glimpse of the "Phantom", I was surprised to see it had legs.
I could not watch "Creature From the Haunted Sea".
I can watch scary movies that fail to be frightening. But I can't watch funny movies that have no sense of humor. The harder they try to be funny, the more uncomfortable I get.
I look forward to next Thursday - the last. I hope TCM will have had enough viewers to do something similar again in the future.

Elizabeth had me watch "IT, The Terror From Beyond Space" a couple nights ago. Man, that movie ROCKED!! I love me some 50s "B" sci-fi!!
IT holds up quite well. Just gotta get past the little stuff like setting off grenades and shooting guns in a pressure sealed space ship. Outside of that, it's still a classic monster movie.
I liked the whole last night.
It was great to see Magnetic Monster and X -The Unknown. I was a little bummd that The H-Man was shown full screen instead of the original 2.35:1 ratio. But it wasn't that great a movie. It was interesting to see it right after watching The Blob.
It was cool knowing UMA members all across the country were sitting down to share the same movies at the same time.
Thanks for a fun month TCM.

IT holds up quite well. Just gotta get past the little stuff like setting off grenades and shooting guns in a pressure sealed space ship. Outside of that, it's still a classic monster movie.
Hell John, that's what MAKES it a classic monster movie!!

It's pretty good but I prefer its relatives The Creature from the Black Lagoon and the original version of The Thing.
That being said I saw this movie as a kid and I absolutely fell in love with it. I think for an entire week afterwords I pretended I was the monster when I was on the playground...
So you guys just reminded me that I need to add this to my collection, thanks ;)

I was a little bummd that The H-Man was shown full screen instead of the original 2.35:1 ratio.
Get the "Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection". It has the US and Japanese versions in 2.35:1 anamorphic.
Is anyone else really missing our Drive In Thursdays? That was so much fun, getting excited to go home and catch some classic (and not so classic) sci fi and monster films. I'm thinking maybe I should email TCM and let them know how much I liked it.
Oh yeah, you're not alone - I wish it was year round!

same here, Drive-In films are my favorite
Man, I am feeling the same way!
Makes me wish they had really done Double Features. We wouldn't have had to stay up so late to see them all, and it would still be going on.
I miss it, it was just like being a kid again. Waiting all week for Creature Feature night, same as in the seventies. Having a certain night set aside for monster movies rocked, so of course we couldn't keep it. SOOOOO UNFAIR.
Ditto. I want my Thursday monsters!!!
Today... is..... Thursday... :(...
I got out of bed this morning feeling a little excited by the fact that TODAY was THURSDAY!
Then the fog in my head cleared as I woke up completely - TCM isn't doing Drive-In Thursdays anymore.
Nuts.
If the June Drive-In features were successful, TCM should put on a weekly horror/sci-fi program with a host. I wonder of Dr. Shocker is available?
Whoa1 That would be cool as hell!

They're missing the boat on this. I think people would love it! I'll bet you wouldn't have to twist Danny's arm to host, either.
