PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1943) on Sven.

It's been awhile. While far from my favorite Phantom, it was better than I remembered. Time & nostalgia work wonderful magic!

Blackenstein (1973)

A real stinker! I'm very forgiving of anything Monster but this is just bad. No doubt it was rushed into production to cash in on the popularity of Blacula which is actually a very good movie. As Blaxploitation Monster flicks go Blackenstein is the worst, being even a cut below Abby, and not even as good as Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde.

Conversely we have Blacula, Scream Blacula Scream, and Sugar Hill (1974), which are all good films. Love me some Sugar HillZombie Cool

Watched it twice, the second time with the Tim Lucas commentary. Lucas does his usual good job raining down a plethora of tasty tidbits for us to savor. This Blu-ray presentation is a must-have if you like The Skull (1965).

Was this film good?

It was "stylish" but I did not personally like it.  Would not watch it again.

Good word.

I felt it was all artifice and no heart.  Like a beautiful woman with no soul.

I wanted to care what became of the machine and the people in the story, but could think of no reason why I should.

Kong Skull Island~"I am tired of this go*damn monkey on this motherf**king island!" [paraphrasing from another film] Thought it was great, left me wanting more and pretty amped up for the versus/team up film.

Mord

I love Samuel L. Jackson (just not enough to sit through SKULL ISLAND). Maybe I'll watch his classic SNAKES ON A PLANE.

Overall I'm not a giant monster fan, never cared for the original Godzillas but Kong is king.  I did enjoy the new Godzilla though, finally a Godzilla film for those that hate Godzilla.
