It's time for a thread dedicated to this incredible 1960's science kit mixed with a classic monster motif. Vintage monster toy goodness in every way!

Let's start with some eye-popping photos courtesy of Toysfortheages.

The Famous Monster of Mpls.  Sayer of the law.

Its MAD, MAD, MAD... and it's completely safe.

The lettering is very Aurora-ish.

Anyone know if the box art was painted by James Bama? It certainly has that look and feel to it.

Terry, thanks for featuring my piece!  The scintillating box art was created by none other than Mort Kunstler.  The boy is his son.  Mort painted many Aurora box covers, including the Confederate Raider, Apache Warrior, Odd Job, both UNCLE kits, etc.  He is also well known for his outstanding civil war themed paintings and the many covers he created for paperback novels.

Keir, Mort didn't paint Confederate raider or Apache Warrior, but you are right, he did many, MANY covers for Aurora. THe re-issues of the Gladiators, the first Superman cover, the great Sports series... His covers for Aurora's 1/32nd sale car kits are classics. A true illustrator, he wasn't content to just do a picture of the car - his covers told stories. He's still producing wonderful art at 79.

Yup.  I have the above Mort print framed.  Just need another wall for it and a battle map of Gettysburg during the second day of battle.

PS Did anyone as a kid try this lab set?

Richard Reid, better known as the 'shoe bomber.'  Fortunately, he failed too.
