Richard Reid, better known as the 'shoe bomber.'  Fortunately, he failed too.

Unfortunately, those people are no longer with us.  :'(

Talk about throwing a hanging curve ball. ;D

Keir, Mort didn't paint Confederate raider or Apache Warrior, but you are right, he did many, MANY covers for Aurora. THe re-issues of the Gladiators, the first Superman cover, the great Sports series... His covers for Aurora's 1/32nd sale car kits are classics. A true illustrator, he wasn't content to just do a picture of the car - his covers told stories. He's still producing wonderful art at 79.

Chris, are you sure?  I'm virtually certain Kunstler did those boxes.  But then again I've been wrong before......

I saw one of these mad mad mad labs at an antique and collectables show in California about fifteen or so years ago. Was that yours Keir ? Cuz this isn't a toy you see around much.

Not to boast but I've owned five of these beauties over the past 22 years, plus one empty box.  Every one of them was purchased privately.  They still qualify as rare.

Jo Kotula did the art on the Confederate Raider and Apache. The earliest art Kunstler did for Aurora (that I know of) were done in '62.

Does anyone have a nice pic of the Mad, Mad, Mad, Magician set? Was that the name of it? Can't remember. Similar cool-looking box art.

Good God Almighty! I've never seen the inside of one of these! Great, now I gotta go find one. I'd have slain a sibling for one of those when I was a kid!  :D

Last one of these I saw had a hole burned through the bottom of the box.. I'm sure some monster kid got his but kicked by his parents for burning a hole in the rug or the kitchen table!

I had a Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist Laboratory as a kid. I believe my father gave it away to the snot nosed kid down the street when I went off to boarding school in grade nine. Very sad. I've wanted another one badly for decades.
