Gotcha. Makes sense. If I recall correctly, the original Dracula ring used in the '31 film was stolen from Forry. What ever happened to that ring I wonder? And please don't say eBay.  Cheesy

I don't think the '31 ring has ever shown up again.  Probably whoever stole it died and it landed in a box of costume jewelry that went to Goodwill.

Hi fmofmpls...here's the ad and certificate for the mummy ring. The ad came from Chiller Theatre Mag, Issue #5, which was for the April '96 show.

And the certificate that came with the ring I reproduced in B&W so I could keep the contrast without overloading the resoloution. According to the certificate, there was supposed to be an edition of 500 of these made, but I don't think there were nearly that many, since, besides mine, I have only seen one other for sale on ebay, maybe about 5 or 6 years ago, even though the letter by the lawyer on the certificate states that the 500 rings were present that night in '96...

The lawyers letter describing the process is signed by a Bryan Hidalgo, Attorney at Law. Since it is hard to read in the scan, I'll transcribe some of it here...
"Bryan Hidalgo, an active member of the Bar of the State of California, a specialist in the field of entertainment law...does hereby certify and attest as follows:
On the evening of July 3, 1996, I personally visited the residence of Forrest J. Ackerman on Glendower Avenue in Los Angeles, CA, and was shown a square of gauze material by Mr. Ackerman. It reflected obvious evidence of extensive usage and aging. It was identified as an actual piece of material used by make-up artist  Jack Pierce for the film THE MUMMY, and is presently owned by Mr. Ackerman.
 I personally inspected the material.
Following my inspection of the fabric, Brian L. Forbes, in a continuous operation occupying a period of almost four hours, took numerous loose threads from the fabric material and placed them into the underside of 500 limited edition sterling silver rings.
I was personally present throughout the entire time that the work was in progress.
Based upon my personal observations and the information which has been given to me as hereinabove set forth, I herewith certify that the contents of the threads which are to be inserted into the sterling silver rings contain actual material used by the character Im Ho Tep in THE MUMMY."
Must have been a fun night at the old Ackermansion! I'll try to take better pics later today.

Yep, the very ad that led me on a months-long chase for my Chaney Spider Ring!  I wanted the Mummy one, too, but by the time I had finally got the Chaney, the whole deal seemed to have gone South.  500 of each ring made?  I agree--a doubtful thing--I had always wondered if they were making them one at a time as the orders came in!  Why else would one have to wait for 3, 4, 5 , 6 months before getting an item that was paid for up front?  Well, they are cool rings, anyhow.  Hope I can snag a Mummy one some day!

Thanks for showing the ad and certificate.  I had been thinking it was in Monsterscene I'd found it, but no, it was in Chiller Theatre.  And that's the only place I ever saw the ad--did it appear ANYwhere else?

I only saw the ad that one time...ever. and yes, the wait was excruciatingly long, with not much, um...customer service i guess you could say. I wish I had gotten the spider ring too. Well, maybe some day!

Thanks for posting that ad Amity Horror. Very cool. I have to admit that I would have had some trepidation in ordering one of those rings; only because I wouldn't be fully convinced I'd receive anything at all. I guess you can blame Ferry's "captain company" for my lack of faith. Not that this was a Ferry pitch. I'm glad that you did indeed receive your ring though. Something like that's bound to increase in value. I can't imagine too many of those were made. Certainly not 500!

Robert .. can't remember .. did you post a pic of your Chaney Spider ring?

Does anyone have any pictures or information about the universal monster rings from Jap-inc.  There was a wolf man, creature, frankenstein, mummy, metaluna mutant and a hammer dracula.  I have a small picture from when it was on the jap-inc. site but now it's gone.  If anyone has any of these rings and could send me a picture I'd appreciate it.

They were silver rings or the heads of the figures.  The frankenstein was the likeness of boris the creature was the head of the creature. etc.  I saw them at chiller once and found them online at the jap-inc web site under licensed materials but now the pictures are gone.  I have a real small picture but don't know how to attach it to this listing.

Ben Chapman told me there was a Japanese-made Creature ring--wonder if this was the one he meant?  I had a Creature ring (since lost, dammit)--Creature head and claw, very large and heavy silver.  Ben said it was the Japanese one.  Wish we had pics of these you're talking about.

Yes that was it.  I too talked to Ben about it.  I sure will miss him.  I have seen another company make the Frankenstein and Creature but this creature does not have a claw to my knowledge.  The Frank is almost the same though.  I will try to get the small picture posted and the new rings pictured too.

To post a picture you have to upload it to the internet.  If you don't have a place to upload, you can register for a free account at www.flickr.com  Or just email it to me at toyranch(*at*)aol.com and I'll post it for you.  This is really interesting!

I feel so stupid.  I didn't see this post before I sent the list and questions about the universal rings from Jap-inc.  Hopefully Toyfan will post my pictures.  I want to tell the person looking for a creature ring that that one and a frank pictured above are on ebay currently.  Some cool pictures.  I know I want to buy both.  PS this isn't a sell for the guy...I don't know them.  I just think the rings are awesome.
