Midnight Syndicate

Hello UMA members,

My name is Edward Douglas and I am a composer with the horror instrumental band, Midnight Syndicate.  For the past 16 years, we've been creating CDs that blend dark, orchestral, movie-score horror music and sound effects.   We call them "soundtracks to imaginary films" with each disc designed to transport you to a world of your own creation (they have themes like a haunted asylum, dark carnival, haunted Victorian mansion, vampire's crypt, etc.).  All of our discs are heavily influenced by classic horror.

I wanted to stop by the boards and let you know that we're working on a new CD for July called "Monsters of Legend."   It's our tribute to the Universal films of the 30s and 40s (as well as the Hammer Films of the late-50s and 60s, early-70s).   Our goal is to make you feel like you've entered one of those classics, are a part of the film.

We're even teaming up with Universal Studios, the Karloff, and Lugosi estates to use original images and production stills from the films in the packaging.

If you have any questions you can message us here or on our Facebook page.

Thank you!  Classic horror is such a huge part of who we are - to do a disc totally focused on that has been fun to create.   We're really excited about this one!

Excellent!  I think this disc is going to deliver for folks who are really into the Universal and Hammer Horror, Amicus, AIP films.

Thanks for the support!

The idea for a Uni-Hams disc (thanks Anton) was a natural progression.  Classic horror is at the core of every disc we do.   However, for this one, we really want to make you feel like you have literally entered the world where the Universal Monsters and Hammer Films exist and are exploring that world.   A lot of that will come into play through the sound effects element of the album.   We're trying to make it a fun listen.

I've met Edward at several shows and even name checked Midnight Syndicate in one of my "Phantom of the Ville" articles at www.louisvillehalloween.com. He's a very cool guy, and I've been listening to Midnight Syndicate since the early years. Of course, this is the CD I'm the most excited about that they've ever released. I can't wait.

Hey Rod,

Appreciate the kind words.  This is Ed.  Way overdue in joining the Universal Monster Army forums.

Glad you are excited about the new disc.  We are too.

First off---welcome. Second, glad you liked Uni-Hams. Made that up all by myself, I did. :D.  LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS DISC. Love your CDS. Nice and spooky.

Hello all,

We just posted "It Lives!," the first preview track off of the upcoming CD.  I hope you enjoy it!

The video features some of the images that inspired the track.  At the end, there's a little montage of images that will give you an idea of what you can expect from the rest of the disc.   There's a heavy Hammer / Herrmann musical influence on this disc.    Take that and mix it with the sound effects and I think you have a disc that's going to be a lot of fun to listen to (especially in headphones or in a quiet darkened room).

The official release date is July 19th (Monster Bash Weekend).  In addition to the CD version, we're releasing a limited-edition 12" vinyl version which is fun.  We'll be posting more info on our website in the next week but I'll be sure to post here as well.

Here's the artwork....
