Yes, That's it ! I grew up in Boston but we made a drive across the country and stopped at the San Diego zoo. I thought that's where that photo was from but I wasn't positive. Thanks for clearing it up. Is that statue still there?

Here's another cartoon ape I liked as a kid---Ape from George of the jungle, voiced in a suave British accent by Paul Frees.

Speaking of George of the Jungle, General Terry's late father-in-law wrote the theme song for that show   Am I remembering correctly Terry?

George of the Jungle had an awesome theme song! That show was funny.

Speaking of funny---I always thought Debbie was a funny name for a space chimp on Lost in Space and I was always amused by her "bloop, bloop" sounds she made. Thanks for posting a pic of her Opera Ghost.

And let us not forget Bingo, the Banana Splits drummer...

I just want to say that UP and I are quite upset at being arbitrarily excluded from consideration in this thread. It's pure discrimination. Where's Al Sharpton when you need him??
We're all here because we're not all there.

Scatter, my good simian,

I did NOT discriminate against you or our dear UP. I actually said you two WERE favorites! here's the quote:

"No, I'm not talking about Unknown Primate and Scatter - although they ARE favorites around here -"

I thought that the two of you, being such humble apes, wouldn't want to see the board overwhelmed with praise and admiration in your name. So please do not fling any poo at me! :P

Your first mistake was overestimating our humility.  ;)

Yeah, no poop throwing.

Here's another fave, King Louie from Disney's the Jungle Book. This was the first movie I ever saw on the big screen.

You beat me to that one
"In each of us, two natures are at war--the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer..."

Monolith

Remember the super strength, intelligence and mind power of gorilla Grodd?

Moonshadow

We could probably do a whole thread about comic book apes!

Anyone remember this guy? It's Snowflake, the albino gorilla. I remember reading about him in National Geographic as a kid.

Monolith

I remember Snowflake, and Koko the gorilla who learned sign language.

Fester

And let us not forget Clint's buddy Clyde!

Monolith

From Monty Pythons Flying Circus(I have the complete series on dvd, love it!)-the gorilla librarian sketch

Monolith

Here's one I always loved "Gorilla My Dreams" the Bugs Bunny cartoon from 1948...

Back in March 1971, Issue 12 of National Lampoon featured this lovely lady on its cover:

Mona Gorilla by Rick Meyerowitz

I wore my official Mona Gorilla t shirt completely out.
