What bumped it, do you remember?

I was trying to recall. I think it might have been a music show; I was only 6 or 7 when Lancelot Link was on, but my brother was already 12 or 13 and I know this was when he began to be interested in music. But I'll have to ask him. I think we watched Jonny Quest reruns before LL came on; that was the only cartoon I think my brother was still interested in watching at that age!

Hey Monolith, I had an obsession with apes too! Hmm, maybe 'had' is the wrong tense... I was always finding ape posters, toys, books, much to my Mom's dismay, as she couldn't stand them!

Monolith

Lancelot Link was one of my favorites, too. I have a couple of L. L. comics and a coloring book, still.

When I was a kid my older brother turned me on to Ernie Kovaks-that Nairobi Trio Solfeggio is great stuff.

Here's my coloring book...

I used to like watching Magilla when I was younger.

yes, Magilla was great! I also liked Grape Ape.

Who remembers the mysterious 'humanzee', Oliver?

He certainly was a bizarre-looking chimp. Although I like apes, the footage I've seen of him raises the hair on the back of my neck. Something about him just seems off. I've always thought he looked like he was burned too. There's a British documentary on youtube about Oliver that is fairly interesting, as long as you ignore the wild speculation.

Who can forget Tarzan's Pal

or Lost in Space' Penny Robinson's FAVE

"In each of us, two natures are at war--the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer..."

Moonshadow

Oh man, Debbie the Bloop! I was never a big Lost in Space fan, but I did like that funky chimp!

OK, here's another fave. I know the 1976 King Kong is disliked by many, but I loved it, and probably the biggest reason is Rick Baker's great suit.

Monolith

Yes, Rick Baker's work on the Kong remake was really great, Way better than that giant mechanical Kong that they spent so much money on and it looked so bad whenever they showed it.They should've just stuck with Rick's work.

Monolith

Remember Fearo the ferocious from Underdog? It was very Kong inspired. I loved that one as a kid.

Agreed. Years ago I had a book on the making of that film and the robot Kong was a complete failure from the start. It's so obvious when they use that instead of Rick in some scenes. The robot is so stiff and slow-moving. But it seems like DeLaurentis was determined to use it.

That is a bust of the gorilla Ngagi at the San Diego Zoo.
