Hey everyone! We do a big haunted graveyard walk-through and haunted house each year and I thought I'd share some photos and video of it! These are from a few years ago when we used to live and do this back down is South Florida (we have since relocated to a new home in Charlotte, NC). About 90% of everything we used we make from scratch each year. Occasionally we will use a store bought prop or costume, but we always modify it in some way to dress it up a bit and make it our own!

Here are links to YouTube videos of the haunted house walk-throughs:

Halloween 2007: The Vault of Horror

Halloween 2008: Dungeon of Darkness

and this is a short video done by the Sun Sentinel about how we do it each year...

Haunted house in South Florida

Hope everyone enjoys!

Really awesome set up Greg!!  Why did you have to resurrect this thread so soon!??  I still haven't finished aging my toe pincher and I have 2 more to build.....Argh!  Halloween is right around the corner.

Thanks guys! Sorry to wake the dead a little early on this one! I'm starting to see a lot of Halloween stuff coming out this year and it's getting me excited already! We actually aren't doing any decorating or anything this year since we are taking a year off from it and doing a massive horror vacation around the country for the last few weeks of October. We do so much on the holiday each year that we never get to see many of the great horror places and attractions around the country (except for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights... we never miss that!!!). So this year we're hitting up Salem, MA, Sleepy Hollow, NY and a bunch of other places and then ending in Jersey for Chiller Theater! Should be a blast, but because of it we're getting Halloween crazy early this year!

Greg- Those videos made my day!!!  :)  I LOVE your family! My husband and I have been a little lazy for the last few years- he travels a lot and I have been busy with everything else- so we decorate to impress our grandson and to give the kids of our subdivision a little fun. But we have not been as enthusiastic as we were when our kids were little. However- last year, our then 5 year old grandson, made his first pvc zombie and had a blast! Halloween 2011 should be high energy for us and I am starting to get excited!!!
zombiehorror- I'm sure you'll finish your projects and they will be as fantastic as your previous props! I still marvel at your columns  :)
And I am happy to see this topic so early because I just got 4 new 5' skeletons from Spirit Halloween online store!!
I've also been spending my late late nights on Halloweenforum.com to get some ideas. Agghhhhh!! I can hardly wait to see everyone's projects!

Was just offered the chance to work on a local "haunted House" - planning to begin in August, with the opening date in late October.  The space I have to work with is perhaps 100 x 80.

Anyone have any suggestions??

I'm a classics kind of guy; vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, etc.  haunted house, cemetery, tombs, woods, etc.  One thing to keep in mind is the age limit; Will it be teens and up or will it cater to a younger crowd?  Sounds like it's a pretty good sized space; Is it open?  If so I would start with a maze/wall design and work from there.  Halloween Forum will be an invaluable source for your project!  Good luck and happy haunting!  Hope you can get some photos of your progress along the way.

Figured everyone could benefit from perusing this thread again and I've got a picture to share of this weeks project(s)!!

The toe pincher on the ground is a new build from more of that luan I scrounged out of my kitchen!  The one standing is my osb board (=to damn heavy) one that I've had for years, it was starting to fall apart so I tore it down and rebuilt it.  More detailing needs to be done on both before they're finished.

ZH, I want to build a toe pincher to store my DVD collection. What materials would you suggest, and can you direct me to any plans?? Appreciate any direction you can give me........you're the Koffin King!!

This one isn't mine, I found the thread/pic on the Halloween forum~

Any toe-pincher plan should do!  Looks like he/she made this with "5/8 in. x 5 1/2 in. x 6 ft. Pressure Treated #2 Pine Dog Eared Picket" (around $1.44 a plank at Home Depot)!

Doing the old Google search you'll find there are tons of toe-pincher plans out there, the first link below looks pretty much like the picture above but with plywood instead of individual planks!

I just kind of went with my own dimensions and laid the lid/bottom out, but it and then built around that.

Here's yet another work in progress shot of one of my coffins~

Originally when I saw these doorknockers at Dollar Tree I was thinking of buying the skull ones to use on my cemetary columns but then as if in a nightmare I had a wonderful-awful idea!  Coffin handles!  Wasn't sure how they would look but I'm really loving them now that I've bought them and laid them out!
