HouseofthePhantom

Hello! My name is Alex Poteet and I am utterly obsessed with ghouls, monster, and odd things. My favorite monster is the Chaney Phantom, but I never met a monster I didn't like! I look forward to speaking with my fellow monster lovers.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I did not. That was done by Greg Hildebrandt.

I always think of fairies and trolls and the like when I think of the Hildebrandt's.  :)

Hi I'm Claire , mixed race lady and l like monster movies and other types of movies as well. The only other types of monster movies I don't really like are ones with giant bugs and insects (mostly spiders) and torture (mostly the saw movies, there not scary but they make me angry) , but I  will watch any thing from Phantom of the opera to Freddy Kruger.

Good to be here and I am looking forward to the interesting topics ahead.

Hi there.
I found this place when I was looking for some new art work. Then I noticed the "collecting monsters" forums and I absolutely love to see picture from other people collections. So, I figured that I could be a member instead of lurking around like a creep.
And of course, it's always fun to learn something new. Since there is so many people here with alot of different taste in the same genres it ends with alot of new sharing information, awesome!
Tace care  :)

Hi I'm Claire

Welcome to the UMA, Claire!

Gotta say that I'm a fan of the big bug movies, especially the ones from the '50s.  :)

I'm with you on torture porn, though!  :(

Hi, again, zombabe!

There's a thread called "Show Your Monster Rooms" http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=106.0 if you want to show us yours! Could be called "Show Your Monster Shelf", as any sized collection will do.  :)

I'm with Mike Scott. I like the classic giant bug movies but I don't like the modern day torture porn.

jonhyers

My name is Jon Hyers, and I am MOST LIKELY the only member of this forum who, Does what I do in connection with Monsters and my "Independent Artist Dayjob". My art is Virtual Reality Scenes of Ghosts, Ghouls, and Universal Monsters, made for Video Projection in people's Windows, primarily for Halloween. Though not yet on a Trivial Pursuit Game Card, I am thee person who started this kind of Window Decoration Video Art, back in 1999.

There is a slight overlap between folks who like Monster Movies, those who Like Halloween, and those who do haunted houses.... naturally. For those here who MIGHT know me, I was a seminar speaker at Transworld in Chicago, and Hauntcon all over, between 1999 and 2010.

I'm a one person Video Artist company, working from home. As it relates to monsters, in 2011 I made a 2 DVD set called Frankenstein's scenes, and Virtual Dracula, and then in 2012 The Ghost of the Frankenstein Monster. My original Frankenstein was about a 3 month project of building sets, and filming. Some here in this forum know who Tom Savini is. A graduate of his makeup school did our Frankenstein Monster

I run a small visual effects studio, and pretty much make my own Digital FX Art. I have also made a number of films including a yet unreleased Harry Potter kind of spoof, but in reality it's "It's own film", called Harry Murdoch and The Curse of the Grim Reaper, which combines a lot of magic and wizard effects.

That is a summary of what I do.

James Burrell

Hi there!

My name is James Burrell, and as you can tell from my username, I didn't use an alias. I'm a freelance writer and journalist based in Toronto, Canada and have written for a variety of magazines, newspapers and websites. I started out in news, but later branched out into entertainment reporting and writing about one of my passions: horror and sci-fi toys and collectibles.

For the past nine years, I've written for Rue Morgue, a Canadian horror-themed arts and culture magazine and have been fortunate enough to interview such fascinating people as Christopher Lee, Richard D. Zanuck, Carla Laemmle, David Hedison, Brett Halsey, Adrienne Barbeau, Larry Cohen, Heather Langenkamp, Laura Levine (the creator of the Count Chocula and Franken Berry characters) and others.

My first book, Horrorwood North, a history of Canadian horror cinema was several years in the making, but is finally slated to be published by Rue Morgue's book/supplement imprint this summer/fall. For the project, I interviewed a number of subjects, including directors David Cronenberg, Vincenzo Natali, Sandor Stern and the Soska Sisters, producers John Dunning and Andre Link, actors Lawrence Dane, Art Hindle, Lynne Griffin and Karen Black; writers Tony Burgess and Karen Walton; composers Paul Zaza and Carl Zittrer, and many others.

My second project, Cryptic Collectibles, is about horror film and TV-themed toys and collectibles, and it is scheduled to be released at the end of the year by Rue Morgue/Marrs Media Inc.

Thanks very much for having me here!

And I forgot to mention that I am a long-time collector, beginning in the early 1980s with the Remco 3 3/4-inch Mini Monster figures, monster magazine and so on.

Growing up in the 1970s, I had a lot of the Mego 8-inch figures, Power Records book-and-record sets, horror movie tie-in novels and monster model kits, but in a silly move, later gave a bunch of it away. I later spent several years trying to reacquire those items (or as many of them as I could).
