CULT of FRANKENSTEIN

So who is excited for the new Devil's Rain cd with Only frontmaning on the whole cd? Land of the Dead LP wasn't to bad but we'll see what land of the dead  sounds like re-recorded for cd. I'm hoping for some good songs i just wish Graves was fronting if Danzig isn't. I have seen Misfits live two times with Only as frontman and it was really good so fingers crossed.

great cd

"The Devil's Rain" isn't too bad. I think Jerry has worked hard to improve his vocals, but they still don't have a great deal of range. This makes a lot of the songs sound pretty similar when listening to the CD from beginning to end. My favorite track on the CD might be "Father." I also like "The Black Hole," a song that reminds me of the Michale Graves era tracks. It's not perfect, but it's hard for me to resist songs with titles like "Curse of the Mummy's Hand," "Dark Shadows" and ""Ghost of Frankenstein." This is pure UMA kind of stuff.

I haven't heard the whole album yet, but from what I have heard, I think Ed Stasium was a great choice as a producer.  With Jerry trying to go more commercial and maybe get some songs on soundtracks, I think Ed's done a great job of making songs sound more commercial while still working in the horror-rock genre.  I know a lot of Danzig-era fans aren't going to like the new album, but that's a given regardless of what it sounds like.  I think Jerry sounds pretty damn good singing too.

Wasn't impressed with Devil's Rain in the least!!  Very bland and generic, though on second thought a bland and generic singer would sound better than Jerry Only; Who is just not a singer, no matter how long he works on his vocals!  In my opinion his new vision for The Misfits is to be a successor to The Ramones of the late 80's/early 90's but this definitely ain't The Misfits (Glenn or Graves era) nor is it even close to The Ramones.  Granted I only listened to the album once and have been meaning to give it another listen but I just keep finding better things to do!

i haven't been a fan of anything outside of the danzig ear. that being said, the misfits were a HUGE influence on my day to day angst as a teenager! all my textbooks featured the crimson one and i constantly had them in my walkman. i still love rocking out to them even in my 30's.

what's your favorite songs? it's hard to make an exact list in order and i am sure it changes day to day, but i would have to say hybrid moments, astro zombies, theme for a jackal, angelf*ck, just to name a few...

Danzig era MISFITS, are truely the one and only. I can not except the Michael Graves era. Sorry.
That being said....... favorite songs: SHE, BULLET, STATIC AGE, TEENAGERS FROM MARS,
SKULLS, T.V. CASUALTY, VAMPIRA, DEATH COMES RIPPING, LONDON
DUNGEON, and so many more.

I can not except the Michael Graves era. Sorry.

No reason to feel sorry about it the two bands are completely different, aesthetically and musically!!  I do find it ignorant when people say they like the sound of the '95' era but won't listen to it because they called the band The Misfits though?!

I just want to make it clear that, of course,  I think the original Danzig era Misfits are the only version of the band that were truly impactive and remain timeless today. I've got the coffin shaped Misfits boxed set and could listen to that material every day and never get tired of it. The special blend of punk rock and horror created by Danzig and Only (primarily) was groundbreaking. Glenn wrote the songs and Jerry came up with a lot of the look and marketing (Crimson Ghost logo, devil locks, Fiend Club. etc.). Anything after those two split ways is a completely different animal. I enjoyed the slickly produced Michale Graves era stuff for what it was; fun Halloween pop Metal with cool monsters and imagery.

I've seen the Jerry Only fronted Misfits a few times, first with Doyle and Marky Ramone on drums, and later with Dez Cadena and Robo. Jerry's vocals are nothing to get excited about, but the live shows were still a blast. They played Misfits, Ramones and Black Flag material and everyone had a great time. At least someone is still playing all of that timeless material. I've also seen Danzig a couple of times over the last five years, and in spite of his considerable vocal talent, his shows included none of his Misfits or Samhain material (at least when I saw him) and were somewhat overly serious sets of Satanic howling that weren't quite as fun as Jerry's shows!

As a recording artist, Danzig's "Deth Red Sabaoth" is one the best things he has recorded in many, many years. Meanwhile Jerry's Misfit's own, "The Devil's Rain," hardly stacks up against Danzig's recent work. It's a guilty pleasure at best. The truth is that if both of these guys could put their egos in the back seat for a minute and reunite (I don't think this will EVER happen) they would likely makes millions of dollars and millions of fans happy. Even Van Halen has somehow managed this feat. Maybe it's not too late.

The last few years/tours Danzig and Doyle have teamed-up. Crazy seeing them
together though. Especially doing MISFITS songs.
