The Creeper

I haven't seen it anywhere in town.  But I do live in kinda a small town.  Our Walmart and Hastings didn't have it.  I gotta get it!
Long live the UMA!

Got mine this week here in Oz.... as an import. There are some great poses for the late Mike Thomas. They pretty much nail a well-known Lugosi publicity shot with him. That said, I started watching it at midnight and fell asleep after 20 mins. that's a reflection on me, not necessarily the film, and I'll give it a better shot later, at a more civilised hour.

Well, my copy came in the mail today and I watched it.  I was always told that if I couldn't say anything good about something then I shouldn't say anything at all.  So, I'll just keep my mouth shut.

We only have one video store left in our area, a small Blockbuster.  They don't have it.

Ordered my copy back in August for lees than 7.00 with free shipping.
It arrived Saturday and I watched it Saturday night.
The picture looks great, very atmosphereic , but it needed( as most modern pictures do) better writing. In my opinion Mike Thomas was the best part of the Movie. Followed closely by the Old Witch and her explanation of the close connection between the Rhinehart family and  the movie Frankenstein  and the Wolfman.
I would have loved to see a little more of the monsters and a lot less of relatives.
It is a movie worth having in your colection if for no other reason than to remember Mike Thomas.

agreed all around except i actually enjopyed the last 10 minutes or so. The rest of the movie was played for laughs.

spoilers:

the part with the black fellas saying things like "ooga booga ungawa cowabunga" and doing the wide eyed double take at the monsters was clearly a tongue in cheek nod at Universal's horrible portrayal of black characters as dim witted comic relief in the 40's films.

Well, although I've been frustrated with Deep Discount having this film on perpetual back order, with no eta, I just this afternoon recieved an autographed copy, after lunching with Ron Chaney.

I shall be watching it tonight!

I ordered my copy from Amazon, and I wish I could say better things about the film. I will say this; the film is very well shot and uses the light and shadows of the black-and-white format to great effect. The sets are great (as is the model castle) and the monster make-up is fantastic. The fight scene at the climax is sort of my 12 year old brain's fantasy of what the fight scene in "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" should have looked like.

Unfortunately, getting to that climatic fight scene felt like watching paint dry for hours. The acting was high school play level acting (none of it consistant), which wouldn't have been so bad in small doses, but the script has these characters talking for pages and pages at a time. Worst of all, there is ABSOLUTELY NO HINT AT ALL that there are monsters in the film or monsters involved in the plot for over an hour. Mostly, it's an old dark house movie with various characters waiting to hear about their part of a will. The Wolf Man and the Frankenstein Monster pop up in the last ten minutes, and Dracula LITERALLY shows up at the door in the last five minutes for no good reason at all. Then the whole thing just stops in a cliffhanger sort of moment.

There are some great creepy cameos and make-ups along the way. The witch was the best, but the ghoul and vampire brides also looked great. I just wish the whole movie was watchable and not just the last 10 minutes.

Apologies Creeper. I had lunch with Ron yesterday, and he kept saying enterprises, but it's actually entertainment. Here is the site
