Spank, I grew up with a diabetic grandfather, a brother with food allergies, and I only eat organic too, so of course there would be alternatives for everyone.

Wow, diabetes almost seems like the great equalizer. Last year, we lost my dad's brother who left this world with only one leg because he the other one was amputated two years ago! My mother's mother is living with diabetes. Organic food, eh? I am a true junk food junkie ;D so eating organically would be a little tough for me. Given my family history, I should be doing waaaaay better.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that about your uncle, Spank. My grandfather has had diabetes for nearly 40 years, and he is very, very fortunate that he hasn't had any complications or limb loss. A friend of his, who also has diabetes, and hasn't had it nearly as long, has already lost both of his legs. Diabetes really is a terrifying thing. I don't even want to imagine how it would be to have to live with it.

I know. My dad's mother died 3 years before I was born because she was diabetic! What makes it bad in my family is that we are all really great cooks & we LOVE to eat. My dad's mom was a church cook. She cooked for the priests for 25 years & according to my brothers, her food ruled!

I'm borderline, I REALLY have to watch what I eat and when I eat it.  I have a pretty restricted, low-carb diet that I am good about sticking to.  I have a bad family history of heart problems and diabetes.  When the doctor says, "If you want to see your kids grow up - then start changing your lifestyle NOW"...well, I took it seriously in that context.  So, I'll have my Coffin Joy in sugar free, too! ;)
