Was just watching the Addams Family on TVLand just now and  saw Gomez building a doll house and then putting the King Kong model on top as the final touch. Then getting a small wrecking ball from Lurch to destroy the house.Just something I've never seen.

I was watching the same while having my oatmeal this morning and said out loud "Hey, its the Aurora King Kong model!" I know I've seen this episode many times before but only just regisitered seeing Kong. Just as I only recently noticed the Steiff bat hanging from their Halloween tree and Wednesday playing with the same bat as he hair is being brushed by Morticia.
I'm almost certain I saw the brown bear that used to be in the Addams livingroom in one scene in "Anna Karenina" where it was being used as a hat & coat rack in Fredric March's room--it had the same odd-shaped incision in its belly.

You wouldn't happen to know what episode this was? I'd like to refer back to my dvd set and do a screen capture with that sequence.

Meek-

Now I will have to check that movie out. It is most likely the same bear, as the first season Addams bear prop did belong to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, who released ANNA KARENINA in 1935. As a side note, the Addams' set is a left over from THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, starring Debbie Reynolds, and also made at MGM.

-------------

I believe that the 'first season' Addams bear to be a polar bear dyed or painted brown
(see pic below). This 'first' series bear, which on the series is dark in color, does have physical characteristics of a polar bear in the head and snout...the  "torpedo" shape found in certain types of polars...and upon close examination does appear to have white fur showing through a sloppy dye or spray paint job (see pic below).

There is a bit of an Addams urban legend, started I think by Addams' producer David Levy (or another member of the Addams production crew, being interviewed for The Addams Chronicles by Steve Cox), that the second Addams bear (shown below) is a brown bear dyed or painted white, which is  utterly preposterous. The Big White Bear is a polar bear; always was and always will be.

The first bear does appear to be darkened, though, and perhaps this is where Levy's  "painted bear" legend originated.

So there you go. More bear factoids that you will never need.

That doesn't even look like a brown bear.  The neck is way too long for starters, the paws are too wide, it goes on and on.  If you paint a brown bear white, it does not look like a polar bear.

Terry: Look for episode #45 "Feud In The Addams Family" and you'll see Gomez play with King Kong

Maybe the Polar Bear that was painted Brown, was then painted white again, and that is the one that Zombie has on display.  ;D HHW
