TAB Drinkers & other retro foods!!
« on: November 06, 2009, 06:27:58 PM »
First, I am HONORED to have something in common with our General other then monsters...as stated in the Blow Molded Junk thread, and the Guilty Pleasures thread..we are both fans of TAB!!

I said this before, but I'll give it a go once more...A few months ago I was going grocery shopping and yes, I am believe it or not a fitness enthusiast so I try to steer clear of the soda aisle..anyway..I decided to treat myself to a sixer of something. To my suprise and exact words "holy sh*t is that TAB??!"...I haven't had a can of TAB since, hmmm probably 1984 when I was 7 years old and I was at the town pool with my mom. I thought, this is either INCREDIBLY old soda, or they still make it!!

Needless to say I brought that 6 pack of pink aluminum glory home that night and cracked one during a baseball game, thinking..."just this one 6 pack"....I have not been without TAB since.

I LOVE TAB and knowing that our General is a fan of this divine nectar just made my night a helluva lot cooler!

This made me thirsty....screw Gin...TAB is my only weakness :)

My folks drank TAB in the early '60's. TAB's possibly the first cola/soda pop I was introduced to.

The only thing more refreshing than a TAB is finally meeting someone who shares my love for carbonated battery acid. I can't tell you how many times, when I'm at the grocery checkout counter, that a clerk will comment on my lonely pleasure. "Oh, they still make this stuff?"  Yes, I say sheepishly, they still make this stuff .. all for me and a guy named Black Lagoon.  ;D

Oh the memories... I can still taste TAB and Fresca; these were my mom's sodas when I was a kid.

Can't say I ever really liked them, but I sure as heck remember them vividly.

You and General Terry can have any that come my way!

Does anyone remember a store back in the 70's called the Pop Shoppe? The Pop Shoppe sold cases of their own brand of pop. All in bottles. You would drink the pop and then return the empty bottles for credit towards your next case of pop. Does this ring a bell for anybody?

I think I may be a bit too young for the Pop Shoppe, other then that...Sir I would follow your TAB filled veins into monster combat anytime...and also stand vigilant at the check out counter with you for those pink cans.

Everyone I gave a a can to in the last few months didnt like it..they all said it either tastes "weird" or my one friends put it like this..."this is like..heavy with the syrup"....I dont know about all that, but it certainly has a unique flavor.

A day off, a Legacy Collection and a can of room tempature TAB...now that is livin!! (its the little things that make me happy ;D)

There is still a Popshoppe outlet or two here in Spokanistan.  One of them is in a local version of Apu's  Quickee Mart, and the other is a specialty pop store that sells sodas from all over the US -- some of which are still made with real sugar.  Somewhere, someone is still making Nehi Grape (are you out there, Radar O'Reilly?).

Tab . . . . ::)

Wow, I haven't thought of that brand since they quit making steel pop cans!

Where else but YouTube? This is what I remember as a kid. Great flavored pops like Black Cherry in glass bottles!

My mother-in-law used to have cases of it stacked in the garage for fear that they may stop making it.  I believe that this is before freshness dates were required.   Do any of you here also suffer from this carbonated disorder known as Tabaphobia?

FWIW, my favorite rock-gut comes form south of the border:

They only sell it here in individual bottle....that are still made of glass.

Woah! That Pop Shopee commercial really brought back some memories! I miss the Pop Shopee. I also miss Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. I want my childhood back!

Anyway, please continue the worship of TAB.

I hope no one minds, but I've renamed this thread to "Tab drinkers and Other Retro Foods." There are far too many cool retro drinks and foods to wax nostalgic over than just restricting it to Tab.

Such as these Space Sticks! Yes, I remember eating Space Sticks! They came in a variety of flavors. Kinda tasted a little like a Tootsie Roll but only with vitamin enriched MSG.  ;D

Well, just shared this thread with Mrs. Bogey and she said that as a girl she drank her mom's Tab, but they had special Tab glasses like this:

Oh man, Jarritos...possibly the sweetest soda ever! Used to get these all the time. I still occasionally pick up an orange one, but hoo boy, is that sweet. Sometimes I can only get through half a bottle. And this from someone who absolutely loves Coke!
