Amazing Monster Showdown - Round One

Hi Gang - my ten yr old monster kid son Luke and I were discussing monster fights the other day. Reminded me of an interview I did once where I was asked which two monsters I'd most like to see square off against one another. After thinking about it we came up with our top ten fights - and want to enlist your help picking the fights you think are the best matchup.

This will be round one. When a fight reaches 0 points it's eliminated. When it reaches 15 points it's an official bout.

ON YOUR FIRST VOTE you may add two fights. Luke and I left several classic monsters out so there's a lot of room for creative matchups here.

We'll do this by voting elimination. All fights will start with 3 points - each time you vote you subtract one point from one matchup and add a point to another.

Rule 1 - You can't vote twice in a row - you have to let someone else vote between your votes.

Rule 2 - you can't vote for or against the same monster matchup twice in a row.

This will be a lot of fun. SO, without further adieu...

Greetings!

This really takes me back to the Universal Kombat days in the Creature Feature Yahoo Group and in Scary Monsters Magazine!

At least 3 or 4 years ago, in the Creature Features Yahoo Group founded by monster lover extraordinaire, Michael Newell, the question was raised about monsters battling monsters. Which match ups we'd have liked to see Universal provide, and who would win. 

Then the winner was decided democratically.... we took votes. Each member voted for which monster would win each battle.  I offered to present the outcomes in a unique way and not just by posting the winner.  I mean, come on, we all have our favorite monsters.... and no one wants to see their monster go down without a good fight!

So the votes were then tabulated and secreted off to ME by the accounting firm of Vincent Price Slaughter-House (just kidding).
I then wrote the play-by-play and published the results in a story form to the delight of the Creature Features fight fans.

I assured all the fans of two things...I would be VERY respectful to
all the monsters, and NO MONSTER would be killed/destroyed beyond the
possibility of return. 

Here was the card for the first round matches:

Frankenstein's Monster vs. the Wolf Man (yes, a re-match)
Count Dracula vs. The Mummy (Imhotep)
The Invisible Man vs. The Phantom of the Opera
and
The Creature from the Black Lagoon vs. the Metulana Mutant.

The winner of those matches went on to challenge each other and the whole thing ends up with a final battle between the last monsters standing.

It was a great time...and with Dennis Druktenis' help, I was able to post the series in Scary Monsters...(anyone remember them?)

If there's interest, I'll start another thread and share Universal Kombat from a long time ago!

Well that's kind of nitpicking there as they were the same character. War of the Colossal Beast was just the sequel with Lt.Col. Glenn Manning suffering a cool facial deformity and a bigger chip on his shoulder.  I don't think we need to nominate which specific film incarnation.

Yeah Prof, I do remember those well - my son and I enjoyed them. He's always asking me who I think would win a fight between so and so and so and so - Hulk and Thor, etc. We discuss this sorta stuff all the time. Fun to think about.

What?  Nitpicking?  In a Classic Monster forum?  Surely you jest!  LOL.
Yeah, I know it was still technically Glenn Manning...but the Colossal Beast seemed more fierce, more angry, more like a ..well...beast.

Plus he looked cooler as a giant monster with half of his face missing...as opposed to a giant bald man in a diaper.
He was 60 ft. tall....how big did the Ymir get?

Sure Ymir only managed 15-20 feet by movie's end, but what if he was left to keep growing?  It was said there was something about the earth's atmosphere that caused his incredible growth, there's really no reason to assume he had reached his full maximum potential size as he was still growing up until his final rampage.  Why not 60'?  Col.Manning still had human limitations at 60', besides when he was only 18 ft. do you think he could have bested an elephant?  In the monster kid dream world they would both reach close to the same height and go at it.


So hurry up and make a couple more suggestions and adjust some scores already.

Sorry Max but  Beast from haunted cave and Beulah should not get on the card if the Thing and IT don't get to go head to head. So -1 there and I'll add one to the Blacksploitation Broo-ha-ha just because I think the angle on this is so damn amusing (I'll likely shoot it down later).
